(she/her)
Hello, my name is Megan Carey, and I am a licensed clinical social worker located in WNY. As a nurturing therapist, I will encourage you to explore your goals and recognize the strengths you already possess. I will provide a non-judgmental and affirming space for you to address your concerns in therapy. As a person you has dealt with their own mental health challenges I know the value of a strong therapy relationship and am honored to provide that support to others.
You can expect lots of questions our first session, so I can get a better sense of what's bringing you to therapy and how we can work towards your goals. My hope is we start building a relationship that feels supportive and comfortable to you and get a better sense of we'd be a good fit in working together. As much as I ask lots of questions, I encourage you to ask questions of me as well so you can determine if we are a good fit to work together.
I am a helper, I have always wanted to help others and that is my true meaning in this world. I have had my own experiences navigating mental health treatment (both positive and negative), and I can truly empathize with the experience of starting the challenging work that is therapy.
I really enjoy working with people who are open to digging a little bit deeper into ways that there formative experiences have shaped the way they view the world, and challenge themselves to grow beyond limiting beliefs that have kept them stuck. Much of therapy happens outside of our individual sessions and I really appreciate when clients take tools and utilize them in their day to day lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT interventions quite regularly, focusing on the connection between thoughts, feeling and behavior as well as connecting to how these patterns are connected to your core beliefs.
Eclectic
You'll notice I blend interventions for CBT, DBT, ACT and trauma specific work to find tools that work bets for you in your treatment.
