Katherine Curley

LCMHC (she/her)27 years of experience

Hello, and welcome. Reaching out for support takes courage, and I am honored you have considered me to be part of that journey. With more than 20 years of experience providing therapy to all ages across community, school, home-based, crisis response, and private practice settings, I specialize in working with trauma-survivors, those struggling with panic, and anxiety as well as those struggling with poor boundaries and low self-esteem. I strive to create a space that helps clients feel heard and supported where they can begin to heal, explore challenges, develop coping skills, and achieve personal growth. Who you meet in session is who I am in everyday life: genuine, easygoing, a bit silly, and willing to be direct and honest when necessary. I will work collaboratively with you to identify strengths, recognize and restructure unhelpful patterns and develop practical skills and build a path toward lasting change so resilience can take root.

First session

Our first session will focus on helping me understand your journey, including your history, current concerns, recurring patterns, and the strengths that have helped you get through difficult times. Once we have that foundation, we'll concentrate on the specific challenges that brought you to therapy and work through them together. My goal is not only to help you process what you're experiencing in session, but also to equip you with practical tools you can use between sessions to manage symptoms and continue making progress.

Strengths

I specialize in trauma-informed care and have advanced training in evidence-based approaches including TF-CBT, EMDR, CPT, Play Therapy, TBRI, and other trauma-focused treatments. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, parenting challenges, relationship concerns, or the effects of stressful experiences. I bring a warm, collaborative, and strengths-based approach that helps clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes. My work integrates evidence-based practices, including CBT, CPT, EMDR, trauma-informed care, distress tolerance skills, and mindfulness techniques, while tailoring each session to the unique needs and goals of the individual. I value creating a nonjudgmental space where clients can explore challenges, build resilience, and develop practical tools for everyday life. My experience working with adolescents, young adults, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions allows me to meet clients where they are with compassion and flexibility. I also focus on helping clients recognize their existing strengths and build confidence in their ability to overcome obstacles. What sets my approach apart is my commitment to combining evidence-based treatment with genuine connection, creating a therapeutic experience that is both clinically effective and tailored to each client’s needs.

Ideal clients

I would be best positioned to help someone who feels overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected from the life or stuck in dysfunctional patterns and want to take the first step toward healing. They may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, major life changes, or relationship challenges. They don't need to have all the answers, just a willingness to show up and do the work. I provide a supportive, judgment-free space where growth happens at a pace that feels right for them. Together, we'll build on your strengths and create meaningful, lasting change.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I have been using CPT in my practice for the past ten years. CPT is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD We'll use CPT to identify, examine dysfunctional thoughts and challenge unhelpful beliefs that may have developed as a result of a traumatic experience. Through structured discussions and exercises, clients learn to process trauma in a healthier way, reducing symptoms such as guilt, shame, fear, and avoidance. As treatment progresses, many clients experience greater emotional resilience, improved relationships, and increased confidence in their ability to move forward.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to distress. I have been using CBT in my practice for the last twenty years. This is helpful for clients to identify and challenge recurring thoughts and be able to better manage anxiety and depressive symptoms. Clients learn practical skills to manage challenges, stress, and life transitions while developing healthier ways of thinking and coping. Over time, CBT helps clients build resilience, improve emotional well-being, and create lasting positive change.

EMDR

EMDR helps you process and heal from difficult or traumatic experiences that may still be affecting your thoughts, emotions, relationships, or daily life. I have been using EMDR in my practice for the last three years. Rather than simply talking about what happened, EMDR helps your brain reprocess those experiences, so they no longer feel as overwhelming or distressing. As treatment progresses, many people notice that painful memories lose their emotional intensity, negative beliefs about themselves begin to shift, and they feel more confident, grounded, and at peace in their day-to-day lives.

Faith-based therapy

Faith-based counseling integrates spiritual beliefs and values into the therapeutic process for clients who desire this approach. Therapy can include exploring how faith serves as a source of strength, meaning, healing, and resilience while addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and life transitions. My goal is to provide respectful, client-centered care that honors each person's beliefs and supports growth in both emotional and spiritual well-being.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I have used IFS techniques over the last two years in my practice. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an approach that can help you better understand the different parts of yourself, including the parts that may be protective, self-critical, or carrying emotional pain. Through this lens, you can develop greater self-awareness, reduce self-judgment, and build more compassion toward yourself. I have completed foundational IFS training and continue to expand my knowledge and skills in this approach. While I am not an IFS specialist, I may incorporate IFS-informed concepts and interventions when they align with your goals and therapeutic needs.
