Hi! I’m Emily, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in alcohol use disorder, and other addictions, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I earned my Psychology degree from George Mason University and my MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010. I’ve worked in various settings, including schools, hospitals, detox/residential, and intensive outpatient dual diagnosis treatment. Most recently, I provided individual therapy in a group practice from 2019 to 2025. I take a holistic approach to therapy, emphasizing the connection between mind, body, and lifestyle. Together, we’ll explore how your habits and routines influence your mental health while developing a deeper understanding of your history and inner world. Drawing from approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic therapy, Positive Psychology, and EMDR, I tailor my methods to support your unique strengths, challenges, and goals. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I value open communication to ensure our work together evolves to meet your needs. I often compare therapy to an emotional gym, a space for both relief and growth. While some sessions may feel restorative, others might challenge you, which can be a sign of meaningful progress.
I am committed to fostering a therapeutic environment where you feel safe, supported, and understood, which I believe is essential for meaningful work in therapy. My approach combines warmth, validation, and curiosity, creating a space where you can explore freely while being compassionately challenged to grow. In our early sessions, we will delve into what brought you to therapy, your personal history, and the goals you wish to achieve. Together, we’ll identify therapeutic approaches that align with your needs, ensuring our work is both supportive and tailored to help you reach your goals.
As a clinician, I am deeply committed to understanding you as an individual, with genuine curiosity about what matters most to you. My approach is empathetic and supportive, creating a safe and nurturing environment for our work together. I am also dedicated to my own growth, personally, and professionally. I prioritize continually pursuing education and training to enhance my skills and provide the best possible support to my clients.
I look forward to meeting with individuals that are open to change, and putting in the work, but may not know where to start. Together, we can create a path that leads to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I feel especially well equipped to work with individuals questioning their relationship with alcohol, experiencing substance use disorders, and desiring a change, as well as those experiencing anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I additionally feel especially well suited to support young adults navigating life transitions.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we explore how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Often, we don’t realize the negative thoughts we’re having, and we may not know how to interact with our minds in a healthy way. By gaining awareness of these patterns, you can learn to challenge unhelpful thoughts. This process empowers you to manage your emotions, break old habits, and create positive change in your life.
EMDR
EMDR is a therapy approach that helps people work through traumatic memories and difficult experiences. By using techniques like guided eye movements, it helps ease the emotional impact of those memories and shift negative beliefs tied to them. It’s a way to process the past and feel more at peace in the present.
Humanistic
In humanistic therapy, the focus is on you as a whole person, helping you connect with your true self and align with your core values. This approach emphasizes self awareness, personal growth, and the belief that you have the ability to make meaningful changes in your life. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, non-judgmental space, allowing you to discover what truly matters to you. The goal is to support you in living a life that feels authentic and fulfilling, with a strong sense of purpose and direction based on your own values and strengths.
Eclectic
This approach draws on techniques and strategies from various therapeutic models based on what seems most effective for your unique needs.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a supportive approach where we work together to explore what’s holding you back from making positive changes. It helps you find your own reasons for wanting change, set achievable goals, and build confidence in your ability to make those changes. Through open conversations, I’ll listen closely, ask questions, and offer encouragement to help you move forward at your own pace.
