I'm Laura Binagia, LPC, a therapist based in Texas with 7 years of experience. I specialize in working with deep thinkers who want to process anxiety, self-doubt, and relationship challenges, as well as general life concerns and personal growth. I love helping people reflect deeply on their inner world, their past, and their emotions in order to reach the insights and healing experiences that will truly move them forward. Ultimately the goal of therapy is usually to be a lighter, happier, more confident version of yourself.
In a first session, I'll get to know you and your current concerns, the emotions or patterns you are currently experiencing, and relevant history. We will review the intake questionnaires you filled out in advance, review symptoms, and discuss diagnosis. I'll ask you about your goals for therapy and discuss ways we can approach those goals, ultimately creating a plan together.
As a deep thinker myself, I love holding space for clients who process thoughts and emotions deeply, consider many angles to things, and are highly self-aware and intuitive. I am skilled at listening deeply and keeping track of multiple strains of information at once, so that I can hold space for the complicated concerns clients bring to therapy. I am skilled at helping clients explore emotions, while also providing relevant insights, questions, and guidance based in counseling theories and general psychological information to guide our work together in a productive direction.
Brainspotting is considered a somatic approach to therapy, meaning it assists in processing the emotions directly within the brain and body instead of "just" talking about them. Brainspotting is a cutting-edge treatment for trauma, but it's also fantastic to use for any deep emotional processing. It can be used to process negative emotions, to "anchor in" or increase positive emotional states, and to assist in meeting performance goals.
An existential approach to therapy is helpful in exploring questions about meaning, purpose, philosophy/beliefs, and values. This approach is intended to help you explore these questions more deeply and make meaning out of your own life, and I will not impose my own views onto you as the therapist.
I use Gestalt therapy to help you explore emotions and their meaning, resolve conflicting emotions, and explore different "parts" of yourself when you are feeling "torn," conflicted, or indecisive on a given topic. Gestalt therapy is meant to bring greater awareness to your emotions and help you process them in real time, in a healthy and effective way.
My therapy approach is rooted in a feminist perspective, and I do incorporate these topics as relevant or if you (as the client) want to discuss it.
