Welcome! I am Kerry White, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am a therapist who understands how life's turning points and trajectories affect overall functioning. Are you balancing your needs & the needs of others? Are you feeling like your cup is half full? Or half empty? Let’s talk about beginning the therapy journey. I offer individual counseling sessions catered to your needs. I believe in meeting you where you are! I believe in you! Have a seat on my virtual couch & let’s embark on your journey to a healthy mind! I have over 9 years of experience helping adults, teens and families in crisis. I'm a licensed Clinical Social Worker in both GA and IL and hold additional certification in Solution Focused modalities. I work with clients who may be struggling with depression or trauma related to their relationships or family. During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues at hand, and collaborate to create a plan for addressing issues in a way that helps you. Most of my clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter. I believe in person centered, & strengths based approaches. This journey is all about you. Therefore, I believe that building upon the strengths that you possess is key to fostering the resilience needed to reach new versions of self. Here at R.I.A Counseling Services LLC. I promote (R)estored Minds, (I)nnovative Thoughts, & (A)bundant Lifestyles through therapy!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is all about getting comfortable and beginning your journey in a safe, supportive space. Think of it as a conversation where you can show up exactly as you are—no pressure, no judgment. We’ll start by getting to know each other. I’ll ask some questions to better understand what brings you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you’d like to work on. You can share as much or as little as you feel ready to—this is your space, and we move at your pace. We’ll also go over a few important things like confidentiality, your goals for therapy, and what you can expect from working with me. If you’re unsure about your goals, that’s completely okay—I’ll help guide you in exploring what you need and what matters most to you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What stands out about my therapeutic approach is my ability to balance compassion with honest, meaningful feedback. I create a space where clients feel safe, seen, and supported—but also gently challenged to grow. I believe therapy should not only feel good, but also create real, lasting change. I am especially intentional about helping clients build self-awareness and emotional insight while also developing practical tools they can use in their everyday lives. Clients often walk away from sessions not just feeling heard, but equipped—with strategies to manage stress, improve communication, set boundaries, and navigate life’s challenges more confidently. Another key aspect of my work is helping clients shift from simply trying to “feel better” to actually “living better.” Together, we focus on identifying values, breaking unhelpful patterns, and creating meaningful, sustainable change.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with clients who may be struggling with depression or trauma related to their relationships or family. During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues at hand and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. I'm an open communicator. I value speaking to clients in a non-judgmental, empathetic tone. I understand how some conversations can be tough and present clients with an unbiased virtual environment.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Therapist demonstrates a strong clinical foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), utilizing a structured, goal-oriented approach to support client growth and symptom reduction. Throughout sessions, the therapist consistently focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, helping clients develop insight into how maladaptive thinking patterns contribute to emotional distress and behavioral challenges. Interventions are delivered in a collaborative and nonjudgmental manner, allowing clients to feel heard while also being gently challenged.

Motivational Interviewing

Therapist demonstrates advanced skill in Motivational Interviewing (MI), approaching each session with a collaborative, client-centered style that prioritizes autonomy, empathy, and respect. Rather than directing or persuading, the therapist works to evoke the client’s own motivations for change, recognizing that lasting transformation is most effective when it comes from within.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as an evidence-based, client-centered approach that helps individuals develop psychological flexibility and live in alignment with their values. My experience with ACT involves integrating its core processes—acceptance, cognitive defusion, present-moment awareness, self-as-context, values clarification, and committed action—into sessions in a way that feels practical and empowering for clients. In my practice, I use ACT to support clients in shifting their relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than trying to eliminate them. I help clients recognize that discomfort is a natural part of the human experience and guide them in making space for those experiences without becoming overwhelmed or avoidant. Through techniques such as mindfulness exercises and grounding strategies, I assist clients in staying present and more aware of their internal experiences without judgment.
