New to Grow
Hello, I’m Carolina Afonso, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) providing therapy in both English and Portuguese. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, and difficulties with emotional regulation. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to each individual's unique needs. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and Motivational Interviewing to help clients gain insight, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. I strive to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, empowered, and equipped to navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and resilience.
During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy. I'll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, relationships, and goals to gain a better understanding of your experiences and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share any concerns about the therapeutic process, and determine whether I feel like a good fit for your needs. Together, we'll begin identifying goals and creating a plan that supports your growth, well-being, and the changes you'd like to see in your life.
One of my greatest strengths is creating a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I believe meaningful change happens when people feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. I combine empathy and compassion with practical, evidence-based strategies to help clients gain insight and make progress toward their goals. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to each individual's unique needs, strengths, and experiences. My bilingual ability in English and Portuguese also allows me to support clients from diverse backgrounds while providing culturally sensitive care. I strive to help clients not only navigate current challenges but also develop lasting skills that promote resilience, confidence, and emotional well-being.

I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps us understand the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, depression, or other challenges, and learn practical strategies to replace them with more balanced and helpful perspectives. CBT is goal-oriented, collaborative, and focused on building skills you can use in everyday life.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-Centered Therapy is a compassionate and supportive approach that focuses on creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly. I believe that each person has the capacity for growth and healing, and my role is to offer empathy, understanding, and genuine support as you gain insight, build self-awareness, and move toward the changes that feel meaningful to you.
