Kaitlin Nitz
I’m Kaitlin Nitz, an Ohio licensed professional clinical counselor and supervisor (LPCC-S). If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or trying to make sense of a difficult experience, you don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. I’m warm, down-to-earth, and direct when it’s helpful. I’ll take time to understand what matters to you, and we’ll shape our work around your goals and what feels manageable. My years as a therapist and clinical supervisor have taught me that feeling heard and respected is an important part of making change.
First session
In our first session, you can expect a warm welcome and space to share what brings you to therapy at your own pace. I’ll listen, ask questions, and work to understand your experiences without judgment. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, validated, and more connected, with a sense of how we can work together in a way that fits you.
Strengths
Clients have told me they feel comfortable being open and honest with me, including when something about therapy isn’t working for them. I welcome that feedback because our work should fit your needs, and I’m willing to adjust my approach as we learn what helps you most. I’ll offer honest, direct feedback with care and curiosity, without judgment. I also believe coping strategies develop for a reason: they may have helped you get through something, even if they’re causing problems now. We can understand those patterns together and find new ways forward that feel right for you.
Ideal clients
I work well with people who are open to learning about themselves and growing through life’s challenges. You don’t need to have a clear goal, feel ready to share everything, or know where to begin. Maybe you’re curious about patterns you’ve noticed, or maybe you just know something isn’t working the way you want it to. I’ll meet you where you are, and we’ll explore what matters to you at a pace that feels comfortable.
Treatment methods
Gender-affirming therapy
I provide a respectful, collaborative, and identity-affirming therapeutic environment in which clients can safely explore gender identity, gender expression, relationships, and experiences of transition without judgment or assumptions. My approach recognizes that gender diversity is not a mental health disorder and focuses on each client’s self-defined needs and goals. I support clients in strengthening self-understanding, developing coping and advocacy skills, navigating family and social relationships, addressing minority stress and discrimination, and making informed decisions about social or medical transition when relevant. Treatment is individualized, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and attentive to the ways gender identity may intersect with neurodivergence, sexuality, culture, spirituality, and other aspects of the client’s life.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. Through a collaborative and individualized approach, clients learn to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, evaluate beliefs, develop more balanced perspectives, and practice healthier behavioral responses. I incorporate psychoeducation, coping strategies, problem-solving, behavioral activation, and skills practice to address concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, emotional dysregulation, and low self-esteem. Interventions are adapted to each client’s needs, strengths, culture, developmental level, and neurodivergence.
Trauma Informed Care
I use a trauma-informed approach that recognizes how past and ongoing experiences can influence emotional regulation, relationships, beliefs, behaviors, and the nervous system. I prioritize safety, trust, collaboration, empowerment, and client choice while avoiding assumptions about what healing should look like. Treatment is paced according to each client’s needs and may incorporate psychoeducation, grounding, stabilization, emotional-regulation skills, and body-based awareness. My goal is to help clients understand their responses with greater compassion, strengthen their sense of safety and control, and move toward healing without creating unnecessary pressure to disclose or process traumatic experiences before they are ready.
