Kimberly Abuajah
I’m Kimberly Abuajah, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Peaceful Pond Psychiatry. My background in high-acuity emergency and behavioral health settings allows me to approach care with both clinical depth and a calm, steady presence. I provide thoughtful, patient-centered psychiatric care focused on understanding the full picture—not just symptoms—so we can create a treatment plan that feels clear, realistic, and effective. My goal is for you to feel heard, supported, and confident in your care every step of the way.
I’m intentional about piecing things together so we’re not just treating symptoms, but actually understanding what’s driving them.
First session
During your first session, we’ll take the time to get a clear understanding of what’s been going on and what brought you in. I’ll ask about your current concerns, mental health history, medical background, and any past treatments to help build a full picture of your needs. This is also a space for you to share your goals—whether that’s improving mood, reducing anxiety, addressing substance use, or simply feeling more stable day to day. If appropriate, we’ll discuss treatment options, which may include medication, therapy-based approaches, or additional supports such as lab work. My approach is collaborative and unrushed. You can expect a thoughtful conversation where your concerns are taken seriously, your questions are answered, and we begin creating a plan that feels clear, realistic, and aligned with you.
Strengths
I take the time to really listen and understand the full picture—not just what’s showing up now, but how everything connects. I’m intentional about piecing things together so we’re not just treating symptoms, but actually understanding what’s driving them. What makes my approach different is that it’s shaped by both strong clinical experience and real-life perspective. I don’t come into sessions with a narrow or one-dimensional view—I understand that people are complex, and that change isn’t always linear or easy. I also take a broader view of mental health, looking at patterns, habits, stress, and environment—not just diagnoses. Patients often tell me they feel genuinely understood and not judged, and that our work together feels both practical and meaningful in their day-to-day life.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve individuals navigating complex mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use or dual-diagnosis concerns. Many of my patients are high-functioning but feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns they’re ready to change. I work well with individuals who are seeking clarity, stability, and a deeper understanding of themselves—not just symptom relief, but meaningful, lasting improvement. This includes those open to exploring both biological and lifestyle factors, and those who value a thoughtful, collaborative approach to care. My approach is especially supportive for individuals who want to feel heard, move at a steady and realistic pace, and build practical tools they can actually use in their day-to-day lives.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care recognizes the impact that past experiences can have on mental and emotional health. My approach prioritizes safety, trust, and collaboration, ensuring that care is delivered in a way that avoids re-traumatization and supports healing at each patient’s pace.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, patient-centered approach that helps individuals explore and strengthen their own motivation for change. I use this technique to support patients in resolving ambivalence, building confidence, and making meaningful progress toward their personal goals.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns that influence emotions and behaviors. I use CBT to help patients develop practical coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and build healthier ways of responding to stress and challenges.
