Hi! I’m Damitra Smith, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor based in Katy, Texas, and working with clients statewide through telehealth. I work with children, adolescents, and adults navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, codependency, and substance use. My approach is warm, direct, and down-to-earth. I want therapy to feel less like a clinical appointment and more like a safe, supportive space where you can show up as your whole self. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Acceptance Therapy, and other approaches, while also honoring cultural identity, lived experience, and even spiritual practices if that’s meaningful to you.
In our first session, my focus is on getting to know you, your story, what’s been weighing on you, and what brought you to therapy right now. We’ll talk through your history, your current situation, and your goals, but just as importantly, we’ll start building a genuine connection. I’ll explain what therapy with me looks like, answer your questions, and make sure you feel comfortable with the process. That first session is really about creating a safe space and seeing if we’re a good fit to work together. From there, we’ll collaborate on a plan that feels realistic and supportive for where you are and where you want to go.
Becoming a therapist truly feels like my calling, I can’t imagine doing anything else. What makes my approach unique is that I see you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. My work is holistic, touching on the mind, body, emotions, relationships, and even your spiritual self if that’s meaningful to you. I have a non-traditional style that blends evidence-based therapies with cultural awareness, spiritual practices, and even astrology when clients are open to it. Clients often tell me I’m both real and compassionate, I’ll challenge you when you need it, but always in a way that feels safe and supportive. My greatest strength is helping people feel seen, affirmed, and empowered to create lasting change and step into their fullest selves.
I work best with clients who are ready to stop carrying everything on their own and want a safe space to breathe, unpack, and figure things out. Many of my clients are preteens, teens, and adults navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, and the ups and downs of life transitions. I also have a heart for working with neurodivergent clients and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and I strive to create a space that is affirming, validating, and free of judgment. Whether you’re struggling with guilt, shame, codependency, or just feeling stuck, I’ll help you break old patterns and build healthier ways of coping. My approach is supportive but also real, I’ll walk with you through the hard parts while helping you build the tools and confidence to come out stronger, more grounded, and more at peace with yourself.
I’m passionate about using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients break free from the negative thoughts that hold them back. Together, we’ll dive deep into the patterns that fuel anxiety, stress, or depression, and replace them with empowering, positive thinking. My goal is to equip you with real-life tools that inspire confidence and help you thrive long after our sessions.
In Person-Centered Therapy, I believe you already have the tools for growth—my job is to provide the support and understanding to help you uncover them. By fostering a safe, compassionate space where you feel seen and heard, we’ll work together to unlock your potential. It’s all about empowering you to embrace your true self and thrive.
I love using Mindfulness-Based Therapy to help you find calm amidst life’s chaos. By practicing staying present and non-judgmental, you can manage stress, anxiety, and emotions with more ease. Together, we’ll build mindfulness tools that bring peace and balance to your everyday life.

My session with Damitra was great! She was accommodating, very personable and although it was my first session, she was able to give me some action items to help me with a few pain points that I shared with her. She is the perfect mix of being fun and also being direct. I'm excited for the next session!
