Dr. Rachel Bench
Hi, I'm Dr. Rachel! I'm a licensed psychologist offering therapy for a broad array of adult issues. Many people begin therapy during seasons of feeling burdened, conflicted, overwhelmed, or hopeless. Through therapy, I help my clients gain insight into the mental 'noise' and emotional turmoil that often accompanies these heavy seasons of life. I provide a solution-oriented approach, where we work towards actionable change and measurable progress towards healing.
First session
In our first session, we'll explore what has brought you to therapy, and any goals you have for our work together. I use the first session as a time to get to know you, and hear your story. Together, we'll identify the focus of therapy, and how we will accomplish your treatment goals (kind of like a roadmap!).
Strengths
I provide integrative, cognitive-behavioral based therapy, with a trauma-informed lens. When appropriate, I also incorporate Christian counseling. I believe that faith & therapy go hand-in-hand, and allow for edifying, transformative healing. I integrate scripture, Biblical concepts, and faith-based interventions into session. I also include interventions from additional frameworks, including DBT, Attachment Theory, and Family Systems depending on the needs of the client. I often recommend books and provide resources to clients to supplement the work we do in therapy.
Ideal clients
I work best with adults feeling stuck in old patterns, or experiencing life stressors, including workplace trauma, grief, relationship issues, or change. I provide therapeutic interventions for anger, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, vicarious/workplace trauma, grief, loneliness, shame/guilt, relationship or family issues. I have specialized experience working with veterans, legal system-involved individuals, adults pre and post incarceration, and first responders/law enforcement.
Treatment methods
Christian Counseling
Depending on the client's preferences, I incorporate faith-based interventions, Biblical concepts, and Christian materials/resources into therapy. I believe faith and therapy are complimentary, and both are relevant and useful in treatment.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT targets the mental script or thoughts that repeat in our minds, and influence our lives. By targeting our thoughts, we can discover new insights and make actionable change in our lives.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate DBT theory by helping clients recognize and regulate emotions, and develop useful skills for appreciating the role of emotions in our lives.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma takes many forms - whether a single event, lifetime oppression, or repeated workplace exposure, trauma has deep impact on the human psyche. I believe acknowledging past trauma(s), processing its impact, and receiving support through therapy is crucial for healing and recovery.
Multicultural
As a multiculturally trained psychologist, I strongly value the importance of understanding each client's unique, intersecting identities. I believe multiculturally informed treatment provides opportunity for clients to experience self-acceptance and understanding.
