Hello, I am a dedicated licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner committed to the well-being of individuals struggling with mental health challenges through comprehensive and empathetic care. With a deep understanding of psychiatric disorders and a holistic approach to mental health, I strive to empower individuals on their path to wellness. I have spent over 11 years as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner, graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Doctor of Nursing Practice – Family Nurse Practitioner in 2019. While caring for my patients, I realized the importance of addressing their mental health needs and dedicated my focus on completing post-graduate training in psychiatry/mental health at George Washington University. I believe in building strong, trusting relationships with clients, centered on open communication and mutual respect. I am committed to holistic care, addressing not only my client’s mental, emotional, and social well-being, but also their physical health at every stage of development. I am driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those I serve.
Sessions will provide emotional support and validation - clients will have a safe and non-judgmental space to express their thoughts and emotions. We will work on improving coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, or any other conditions presented. In addition, we will focus on enhancing communication skills, increasing resilience, and developing long-term strategies for maintaining mental and emotional well-being. When needed, pharmacotherapy will be recommended.
Several screening and assessment tools can be used before or during sessions, including PHQ-9, GAD-7, CAGE, CRAFFT, and the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (CSSRS). Assessments will be done during the initial visit and then at periodic intervals to evaluate progress. I like to emphasize psychoeducation to assist clients in gaining insight into themselves and any issues they might be working on. I focus on using Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I have experience working with a variety of patients from different cultures and backgrounds. I am fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. During the past few years, I have worked with cardiac patients and older adults and I have a deep understanding of their needs.
