(she/her)
Hello! My name is Jasmine Sims, MS, LPC, NCC. I have a passion for working with individuals and empowering them to work through life's transitions. I obtained my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Mercer University in 2018. Currently, I am working towards my Ph.D in Counselor Education and Supervision. I have seven years of counseling experience in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatric units working with children and adolescents with dual-diagnosis and/or co-occurring disorders, residential facility treatment, community agencies, and private practice. I have provided counseling services to individuals, families, and groups. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults. I have experience with working issues through working at a dual-diagnosis unit at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, though acknowledge that this is not my main area of competence. I have treated clinical problems that include depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment disorders, substance use, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, physical and sexual abuse, child neglect, autism, ADHD, conduct disorder and oppositional-defiant disorder, intellectual disability, and personality disorders. I also have experience with parent-child relational problems, academic failure, problematic social media use, relationship issues, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning issues.
I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental environment where you can be yourself and explore your thoughts and feelings. I want us to be able to work together to identify ways you can continue to work towards being your happiest, authentic self.
I have worked with all age ranges, from young children and adolescents, to adults in various inpatient psychiatric and outpatient settings. I utilize an eclectic approach to fit my client's individual and unique needs. My initial goal is to identify areas that you want to work on to be able to tailor the counseling experience to you.
I love working with children, adolescents, and young adults as a therapist because it allows me to support their growth and help them develop the tools they need to navigate life's challenges, fostering resilience and emotional well-being from a young age.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I apply Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns, fostering a more balanced perspective. Through collaborative efforts, we employ behavioral strategies, goal-setting, and mindfulness techniques to address specific issues and enhance emotional well-being. Regular progress assessments ensure the effectiveness of interventions, making CBT particularly beneficial for concerns like anxiety, depression, and trauma by providing practical skills for sustained well-being.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
As a counselor practicing Person-Centered Therapy, my approach is rooted in creating a warm and empathetic environment where clients feel heard, valued, and accepted without judgment. I prioritize the individual's unique experiences, emotions, and perspectives, allowing them to guide the therapeutic process. By fostering a genuine and authentic connection, I support clients in exploring their own thoughts and feelings, promoting self-awareness and personal growth. The client's autonomy is central, and together, we collaboratively work towards achieving their goals, empowering them to navigate life's challenges with increased self-understanding and confidence.
