I am a licensed psychologist and board certified art therapist who has helped individuals and families thrive for 30 years. I have depth of knowledge and wisdom of life, coupled with humility and curiosity that I bring to each session to best support you in your journey to being you. I am a renaissance man not only in my profession, but I like working with my hands, gardening, DIY home improvements, pottery, woodworking and more. In my free time I like to spend time with my family.
In our first session I will ask you a lot of questions to that I get to know your story and can begin to understand the context of the specific challenges that bring you to therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask me questions about me and my practice.
My greatest strengths are my depth knowledge, compassion, wisdom and appreciation for diversity.
Challenges with emotions and relationships we experience in our daily life can be traced back to past experiences in previous relationship including those with our parents or other primary attachment figures. Understanding the connections between past and present helps you differentiate the two and be more present to the present moment. The result is deeper connections with the important people in your life.
Jung wrote that "all reality is based in fantasy." When we are stressed and overwhelmed we lose the capacity to imagine. Being able to imagine alternatives in the way we make sense of our experience, our emotions and our relationships to others determines our emotional wellbeing. I will support your capacity to imagine.
Being connected to your senses and body is important to experience a sense of wellbeing. I will help you get grounded in your body and your environment through breathing and sensory activities.
I provide an respectful environment that honors your unique response to traumatic stress whether it stems from early childhood or a recent event. Helping you manage your inner world of emotions is my priority. Processing trauma is done in the context of safety. We make sure if we take things apart during session we will put them back together before you leave.
