I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Licensed in Florida only. I have been a licensed therapist for 14 years. My degree is a Master of Science in Counseling and Psychology. I completed my practicum and internship under the supervision of Dr Jimmie Vargas, MD, a Child and Adolescent psychiatrist,. I use what is known as measurement based care in my practice. My clients receive validated clinical test to measure their progress. My primary psycho-therapy approach is CBT , first described by Aaron Beck, MD and colleagues in the book Cognitive Therapy of Depression. My therapy approach also includes stress testing, self-esteem testing and homework will be assigned after each session. The goal of my therapy approach is to help my clients improve their well-being and help them to reduce their stress.
The goal of my first session with you, will be to listen to your reasons for coming to therapy, The second goal of the first therapy session will be to establish rapport. Rapport creates trust which allows for effective collaboration in the therapy process.
My best strength as a therapist is my ability to listen. Also, I have now been licensed for 14 years. I have worked with clients all around the world to include, Canada, New Zealand, Zambia, Angola, Dubai, and other locations. The issues are the same. This insight has provided me with a broader view of issues/problems that bring people to therapy, and also what therapy approaches that help people improve their well being.
My ideal client maybe experiencing depression, anxiety, decision making issues, low self-esteem, undiagnosed adult ADHD.. My idea client may be the product of a home life that was unsafe and now as adult experiencing attachment issues. My idea client may be a person who is not experiencing any diagnosable issues but needs to talk with someone in a confidential and non-judgmental setting
Many people who come to therapy use "thought distortions" to process information, events, disappointments they experience. During the first or second therapy session, I help my clients identify the use of thought distortions described by Aaron Beck and his colleagues. It is now well documented that if you can change the way a person thinks you can change the way a person feels.
