Hi! I'm a licensed therapist in Georgia. I knew I wanted to be a therapist when I was in the 3rd grade. I would wait at the swing set for my friends to come talk to me about their problems. As someone who was born into poverty and struggled with traumas of my own, I know how difficult life can be at times. Being there for others was something that took my mind off of the stressors of home. After becoming a teen mom, I knew I had to change my life for the better to support my family. I went to college to both heal myself and learn how to help and heal others. I am passionate about helping others meet their goals, feel happy, and have loving supportive relationships in their lives. I believe in practicing what I preach, so you know that if I'm asking you to try something then I've tried it myself and know it works. I believe that we all have the answers inside of us, I just help you find them.
In the first session, I will quickly tell you a little about myself and my practice before getting into why you are coming into therapy. I will ask a little about your background, about your strengths and weaknesses, and what symptoms you are experiencing. We will talk about what you imagine your best life looking like, and I will begin to create a plan to get you there.
What makes me great at my job is that I'm a real person who's gone through a lot myself. You don't have to worry about being judged because, believe me, we all have things we aren't proud to share. I know how hard therapy can be (I've quit several times). It's scary and vulnerable. I will meet you where you are at and help you get over the fear of talking about (and getting emotional about) yourself. I also believe in practicing what I preach. I don't do it perfectly, but I would never ask you to try something if I didn't believe that it will help you.
I use CBT because it's one of the most effective and well-researched treatment methods for a number of mental health issues. I also practice CBT on myself because I don't believe in asking others to try things if I haven't tried them myself. As skeptical as I've been in the past, I learned that these methods WORK!
Trauma-Focused CBT is a great treatment option for children ages 4-18 and for those children who've experienced trauma. This method helps caregivers learn ways to support their children to improve their mood and behaviors.
As a trained couple's therapist I've learned that most couples are struggling with communication. I teach couple's how to listen to one another in a non judgmental space. Together, we work on finding the connection that drew you towards each other to begin with.
