Tamara Onley
As a Multiracial Woman of Color, I'm passionate about working with members of marginalized communities, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals. I offer individual therapy with a particular focus on anxiety, depression, trauma, forgiveness, and grief. For clients who welcome it, I also integrate a Christian faith-based approach into our work together. My practice is a warm, authentic, non-judgmental space where you can meet yourself right where you are and grow from there.
First session
Your first session is an opportunity to share what's bringing you to therapy and for us to begin getting to know one another. You don't need to have the right words or a clear sense of what you're feeling. We'll explore that together. Safety takes time to build, and it grows through the therapeutic relationship, so we'll move at your pace. You can expect a warm, non-judgmental space where your goals guide the work, and you'll leave having taken a meaningful first step toward growth and healing.
Strengths
I believe healing happens in relationship, so I'm passionate about building a space where you feel safe, and I know that takes time. We move at your pace. I use a personalized approach tailored to your personality and needs, and I enjoy helping you get to the root of what's keeping you stuck, even if you don't yet have the words for it. Therapy is a partnership: together we'll set goals that matter to you, whether that's better relationships, self-esteem, healing from the past, or personal growth, and we'll adapt your plan as you gain insight. I hold onto the belief that everyone has the capacity for growth, change, and joy, and I'll meet you where you are as you work toward it.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who feels stuck in a cycle and is ready to get to the root of what's keeping them there. They may be working through attachment issues, trauma, grief, or a major life transition, or navigating complex interpersonal dynamics in their relationships. I work best with clients who are open to exploring their inner world with curiosity and compassion. I often use Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy to help make sense of complex situations, and I enjoy supporting individuals who are ready to put what they learn into action. Above all, my ideal client believes, or is willing to consider, that growth, change, and joy are possible. I would love to walk alongside them.
Treatment methods
Attachment-based
Attachment-based therapy helps clients understand how their earliest relationships shaped the way they connect with others today. Together, we explore patterns in how someone seeks closeness, handles conflict, or protects themselves from hurt. The therapeutic relationship becomes a safe space to practice new ways of connecting, building more secure and fulfilling relationships outside of session.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT helps clients notice the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When a pattern keeps someone stuck, we identify the thoughts driving it, gently test whether they're accurate or helpful, and practice new responses. Practical tools and, at times, homework help clients put what they're learning into action in ways that make sense for their lives.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
A person's identity, culture, and lived experience matter in this work. I take time to understand how a client's background, family, community, and experiences of marginalization or discrimination shape their story and their strengths. Their values and beliefs guide how we work together, so therapy fits the client rather than asking the client to fit therapy.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS recognizes that we all have different "parts," such as the part that worries, the part that protects, and the part that carries old pain. Clients get to know these parts with curiosity and compassion, understand the roles they play, and help them heal. This approach is especially helpful in complex situations, where it can feel like being pulled in opposite directions.
Faith based therapy
For clients who welcome it, I integrate Christian faith into the therapeutic process. This may include exploring how faith shapes a client's sense of meaning, healing, and forgiveness, drawing on spiritual practices or beliefs as sources of strength, and working through spiritual struggles or questions. Faith is only included when and how a client desires, so their beliefs are honored and guide the work.
