Hello, I am Patricia Bryant-Reid, a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years of experience providing therapy to adults seeking support for emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, grief, relationship and attachment difficulties, health concerns, caregiving stress, life transitions, and personal growth. My treatment orientation with clients is informed by my ability to create strong therapeutic alliances, built on trust, respect, and mutual collaboration. This approach, which combines evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, enhances client engagement and strengthens their commitment to working through difficult personal challenges, which can support lasting, lifelong improvement.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Clients can expect me to acknowledge that taking the first step to seek help is an act of courage, and I want them to know I see the strength it takes to seek help. I also understand that opening up to someone they have just met can feel vulnerable, uncertain, or even intimidating. They may wonder whether they'll feel comfortable and understood, and whether therapy will truly support what they’re hoping to work through. Because I’m sensitive to all of this, I am committed to being fully present to my clients. During the initial session, I will offer my undivided attention, a warm, grounded presence, and create an environment where the client can feel safe, respected, and free from judgment. My goal is to build a trusting connection from the very beginning and to create a space where the client's experiences are met with genuine care and unconditional positive regard.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My ability to build strong therapeutic alliances has been a powerful catalyst in helping clients recognize their strengths and resilience. Through this collaborative process, I have witnessed my clients experience meaningful improvements in self‑esteem, reductions in anxiety and depression, experience healthier interpersonal and family relationships, and use improved coping abilities to manage and deal with difficult life challenges.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with clients aged 28 to senior citizens who present with anxiety, depression, life transition issues, and unresolved trauma; clients navigating racial trauma at work, relationship issues, clients with a history of foster care and adoption, divorce and break-ups, and grief. I also work well with clients who identify as BIPOC-Black, Hispanic, and people of color, as well as with women navigating intersectional identities and the complexities of multiple roles and perspectives.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

This treatment approach recognizes and builds on the client's innate strengths and courage to make the healthy decision to seek therapy at this time in their lives. With this therapeutic method, I foster a positive, encouraging space that helps clients feel comfortable and accepted, allowing them to explore emotional issues without fear of judgment.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

The core premise that informs this treatment modality is that unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors are linked to distressing feelings and emotions, such as anxiety and depression. I use this structured therapeutic method to introduce clients to tools and strategies to help them recognize negative thoughts, examine the evidence for and against them, and replace these unhelpful thoughts or beliefs with more realistic and balanced beliefs that can lead to a reduction in anxiety and depression, healthier behaviors, or improved decision-making.

Motivational Interviewing

I use this method frequently in therapy with my clients. It is an empathetic, collaborative, and a goal-oriented approach that recognizes clients come to therapy seeking change in their lives. I acknowledge that change can be intimidating and difficult, and I provide support while working collaboratively with clients. Together, we identify a behavioral goal, assess their readiness or ambivalence toward change, and, based on their stage of change, support their confidence in taking incremental steps toward the meaningful change that they are seeking.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

My work with clients is informed by cultural humility and centered around their lived experiences, which I see as essential to understanding and respecting their unique perspectives. I believe in the importance of a strong therapist-client relationship and encourage clients to share feedback about their experiences with me. As a therapist, I engage in continuous self-reflection to ensure that my understanding of the client and their issues is not influenced by my own biases or life experiences. Therapy is a collaborative process and will involve the client in understanding and buying into the most appropriate treatment modality and the goal-setting process that will guide our work together.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to help clients process loss—whether from death, divorce, job losses or health declines—by providing a safe and supportive environment to validate their feelings and normalize their grief reactions. I encourage self-care and seeking support from family, friends, and community, while continually assessing for signs of complex grief that may require more intensive interventions.
