Hello. I'm Jewel McGowan, LPC. I have more than 25 years of experience effectively treating anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, trauma, grief, school failure and much more. I help my clients get down to the root causes of their challenges, and I empower them to break out of old patterns. Positive Psychology, CBT, and Play Therapy are just a few of the ways I treat my clients, and I've successfully helped thousands of clients reach their goals.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In the first session, you will have the option of decompressing and sharing your concerns in a conversational manner or jumping right in to my assessment that helps me get clarity on the specifics of your challenge. My pace and our rapport allows my clients to feel comfortable talking about anything. We will find out how much your challenge affects your life, and a measurable goal is usually established in the first or second session.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a provider are that I'm non-judgemental, I genuinely love seeing my clients lives improve and I have a strong zest for life that inspires my clients to be their best selves. Most of my clients really benefit from understanding more about themselves ex. What is their mind/body type, personality, strengths and weaker areas. I also love to have fun and communicate with my youthful clients through creative and playful activities.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am very well suited to serve ages 5 and up with anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, PTSD, school failure. I have worked with clients in the community, office, homes, schools and anywhere needed. My clients have mild to severe symptoms, and I we've almost always seen significant improvement.

My treatment methods

Positive Psychology

I have used the Positive Psychology treatment method to help my clients create a new story for their life and overcome or greatly reduce anxiety and focus on things the fear or worry about. I also use a thought inventory tool that lets us see exactly which thoughts are pervasive and causing them to feel worried, stuck or depressed. We will replace those thoughts, and from week to week my clients will be supported in taking small or big steps toward their goals. Positive Psychology allows them to be heard without repeating the old traumatic and limiting story over and over again. Clients will feel empowered to face any situation, learn to relax, release codependent patterns and feel free to be their true authentic selves.
