Kevin Denzler
My name is Kevin and I am licensed counselor in the state of Ohio. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel comfortable being yourself, talking openly, and knowing you will not be judged. My approach is relaxed, supportive and collaborative. I enjoy helping people make sense of what they are experiencing.
I believe therapy should be a place where you feel comfortable being yourself, talking openly, and knowing you will not be judged.
My approach is drawing on cognitive behavioral techniques, education and practical approaches to help calm the mind and body, manage difficult emotions and build a sense of confidence.
First session
During our first session, my goal is to help you feel comfortable and begin building a trusting relationship. We'll spend time on getting to know one another, what brings you to therapy and identifying some of the concerns and challenges you would like to address. We would also begin exploring your goals and what you hope to gain from counseling. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, understood and with a better sense of how we can work together
Strengths
Having navigated my own experiences of trauma, anxiety and depression, I bring a personal understanding of the challenges clients face. I believe these experiences have helped me develop empathy, patience and an appreciation for how difficult change and healing can sometimes be. I strive to meet clients where they are, without judgement, while recognizing that everyone's experiences and paths forward are unique.
Ideal clients
I particularly enjoy working with adults and adolescents who are navigating life's challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma and grief as well as significant life transitions. I am interested in those who may feel stuck, overwhelmed or uncertain how to move forward. I appreciate working with individual's who are seeking to better understand themselves, develop practical coping skills and greater confidence and resilience.
Origin story
I am a second career therapist, and I find great satisfaction in helping others navigate life's challenges. Seeing clients gain insight, make progress and experience positive change has been especially rewarding and reinforces my belief that i am on the right path.
Ongoing work together
In future sessions, we would continue to explore the concerns and experiences that brought you into therapy. We would continue working on the goals we have developed together. Depending on need, we may explore patterns of thinking and behavior and develop practical coping strategies. My approach combines understanding and insight with practical tools you can use in everyday life. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable and regularly checking your progress and adjusting our approach as needed
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
While we often times cannot control life's circumstances and how we think or feel, ACT proposes we can learn how to respond to circumstances and where we can direct our energy. This includes accepting our experiences that we often cannot change. It also helps us to be able to identify what is important to us and to make choices that move us toward the life we want for ourselves.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma Informed Care is an approach that recognizes that difficult life experiences can have lasting impact on how we see ourselves, relate to others and respond to the world around us. I believe it is important to create a safe, supportive and nonjudgemental space where clients feel heard and respected. My approach emphasizes understanding, patience, and working together at a pace that feels comfortable, while also helping clients to develop practical ways to manage emotional distress and move forward.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness based approaches help us become more aware of our thoughts, feelings and physical responses in the present moment. Through practices such as mindful breathing, grounding and relaxation, individuals learn to slow down, manage stress and respond to difficult emotions with greater awareness, rather than simply reacting. The goal is to develop a greater sense of balance, self-awareness and control in everyday life.
