Ronaldys Paez
I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a diverse academic background, including a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the Agrarian University of Havana, a BSN from Miami Dade College, and an MSN specializing in psychiatric mental health from St. Thomas University.
As a bilingual provider, I also offer care in both English and Spanish, helping patients feel more comfortable expressing themselves in the language that feels most natural.
I provide compassionate, evidence-based care that integrates biological, psychological, and social aspects of well-being. My services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy, always delivered in a safe, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental environment. My goal is to build a trusting, collaborative relationship where you feel heard, supported, and empowered in your journey toward healing and growth.
First session
Your first session is an important step toward understanding and improving your mental health. During this visit, we will take the time to get to know you—your experiences, concerns, goals, and what brings you to seek care. This is a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental space where you can share at your own pace. We will complete a comprehensive evaluation that may include discussing your emotional well-being, medical history, current symptoms, medications, lifestyle, and support system. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and share what you hope to gain from treatment. By the end of the session, we will begin to develop a personalized care plan together. This may include recommendations such as therapy, lifestyle strategies, or medication management if appropriate. Our approach is collaborative, and your voice is always central in the process. Most importantly, this first session is about building trust and making sure you feel heard, understood, and supported from the very beginning.
Strengths
What sets my approach apart is the balance between clinical expertise and genuine human connection. I combine evidence-based treatment with a compassionate, personalized style, ensuring that each individual feels truly seen, heard, and understood, not just treated. I take a holistic approach, addressing not only symptoms but also the underlying emotional, psychological, and life factors that impact well-being. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can openly explore your experiences while feeling supported every step of the way. As a bilingual provider, I also offer care in both English and Spanish, helping patients feel more comfortable expressing themselves in the language that feels most natural. I value collaboration, empowering you to take an active role in your care, while providing clear guidance and clinical insight. Ultimately, my focus is not just on short-term relief, but on helping you build long-term resilience, emotional balance, and a deeper understanding of yourself.
Ideal clients
I provide compassionate, patient-centered psychiatric care across all stages of life, supporting adolescents (13+), adults, and older adults as they navigate emotional, behavioral, and life challenges. I understand that each stage brings unique experiences from identity development and family dynamics in youth, to work, relationships, and stress in adulthood, to changes in health, memory, and independence later in life, and no one should face these alone. Care begins with a thoughtful and comprehensive evaluation that considers the whole person, including emotional well-being, medical history, environment, and support systems. Treatment is always personalized and may include education, supportive guidance, and medication management when appropriate, with a strong focus on safety, collaboration, and respect. Our goal is to help every individual feel understood, build resilience, maintain independence, and achieve a better quality of life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based, structured approach that focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. CBT is based on the understanding that thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are closely interconnected, and that modifying negative or distorted thinking can lead to meaningful improvements in mood and functioning. CBT is goal-oriented and practical, helping individuals develop effective coping strategies, improve problem-solving skills, and manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges. Through education and skill-building, CBT supports lasting change and empowers individuals to better navigate daily life with increased resilience and emotional balance.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy is a depth-oriented approach that focuses on understanding how unconscious patterns, past experiences, and interpersonal relationships influence current emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. This therapy emphasizes self-awareness and insight as pathways to meaningful and lasting emotional change. Through guided reflection and exploration, individuals gain a deeper understanding of recurring emotional themes, relationship patterns, and internal conflicts. Psychodynamic therapy supports emotional growth, improved self-understanding, and healthier ways of relating to oneself and others, fostering long-term psychological well-being.
Supportive
Supportive therapy is a therapeutic approach focused on strengthening emotional resilience, enhancing coping skills, and providing consistent emotional support during periods of stress, transition, or ongoing mental health challenges. This approach emphasizes validation, encouragement, and practical guidance to help individuals manage symptoms and improve daily functioning. Supportive therapy helps individuals process current concerns, reinforce existing strengths, and develop healthier coping strategies in a safe and collaborative environment. The goal is to promote emotional stability, improve confidence, and support overall well-being while helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with greater balance and adaptability
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness therapy is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes cultivating present-moment awareness with openness, curiosity, and acceptance. It helps individuals become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations, allowing them to observe experiences without becoming overwhelmed or overly reactive. Through mindfulness-based practices such as focused breathing, grounding techniques, and gentle body awareness, individuals learn to respond to stress, anxiety, and emotional discomfort with greater clarity and calm. Over time, this approach can improve emotional regulation, enhance concentration, and support overall mental well-being. Mindfulness therapy encourages a more balanced and compassionate relationship with one’s internal experiences, fostering resilience and a greater sense of inner stability in everyday life.
Narrative
Narrative therapy is a supportive counseling approach that helps individuals understand that they are not defined by their problems or difficult experiences. This therapy focuses on exploring personal life stories, identifying strengths, values, and resilience, and helping patients develop healthier and more empowering perspectives about themselves and their future. Through guided conversations, patients learn to separate themselves from their challenges and build confidence in their ability to overcome difficulties.
