New to Grow
Hi! My name is Marie Sefton and I am licensed clinical social worker based in the Bay Area. Throughout my years of practice I have worked with individuals and families across a variety of settings, including in clinics and in private practice. I specialize in working with adults who are navigating life transitions, anxiety, and depression. I utilize a strength based approach and integrate evidenced based practice into my work, including motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first meeting, we’ll spend time getting acquainted and making sure you feel safe and comfortable. You’re welcome to share whatever feels most important, including what’s been challenging, what brings you here, and what you hope might change. I’ll help guide the discussion with thoughtful questions so I can better understand your perspective and experiences. From there, we'll talk about goals and outline what you'd like to get from our time working together. If you feel like we're a good fit, we'll schedule our next appointment.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I provide a supportive, collaborative, and judgment free space where you can feel safe to explore your thoughts and emotions. Through active listening and thoughtful questions, I help you deepen your understanding and process your experiences. My approach is calm, consistent, and patient, allowing you to move at a pace that feels right for you.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
The clients I am best able to serve are adults of all ages who are struggling with life transitions, anxiety, and depression.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have several years experience providing CBT in both group and individual sessions. I use CBT to help my clients better understand how the interactions between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact them. We utilize this information, along with practical behavioral strategies, to address symptoms of anxiety and depression.
