My name is April Barran and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 10 years of experienced. I believe you are the authority concerning your life and life experiences. My intention is to positively impact your life by listening and offering differing ways to view to a particular situation. My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy of which I prefer utilizing Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy to get to the root of any issue and or concern.
The first session will always entail gathering personal data from the client and review the information with the client. We will review policies and procedures pertaining to the telehealth counseling process. Questions will be answered at this time and sharing of any concerns to be discussed and or worked through during the counseling process. Expectations of the client and counselor will be reviewed as well. Lastly, all compliance documentation must be completed.
My strength as a counselor is that I actively listen to my clients and ask the client how they see me assisting them with the situation. I believe counseling is a cooperative process with the client leading what is discussed and or addressed. I use Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy to discover the root of an issue and provide coping skills if needed.
I prefer to work with people who are ready for change. I do work with people who are not quite ready for change, but they should be at least willing to consider alternative ways of interacting with others. I like working with children and young adults because of their ability to change if they see the benefits in making the changes being suggested. Also, I like being a safe space for them to share their inner most thoughts and feelings.
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
All issues and or concerns begin somewhere whether we recognize it or not. I enjoy assisting others in finding the root cause(s) of their issues and or concerns in life. Once the root cause has been identified it makes it easier to address the issues and or concerns impacting the lives my clients.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I also enjoy working with mindfulness approaches to assist clients in focusing on the present in an effort to reduce anxiety and or stress in their lives.
