Lolita Kincade
Greetings! I’m Dr. Lolita Kincade. With more than a decade of experience in education and family studies and eight years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I am committed to empowering individuals and families to navigate life’s challenges. My professional background spans clinical mental health, academic leadership, and community advocacy, providing me with a holistic perspective on personal growth, relationships, and well-being. I hold a Ph.D. in Family Studies with a concentration in Health Promotion and Planning, along with an M.S. in Educational Counseling. As a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE), I specialize in areas such as mental health therapy, family dynamics, child and adolescent development, and crisis intervention. My clinical experience includes working with children and families affected by trauma, social services involvement, and behavioral challenges. Beyond counseling, I serve as a university professor and department chair, mentoring future professionals in human development, family studies, and counseling. I am also deeply engaged in advocacy efforts, serving on multiple boards and initiatives aimed at promoting equity and community well-being. Whether providing therapy, teaching, or developing programs, my mission is to foster resilience, self-awareness, and positive change in individuals and communities. I look forward to assisting you.
First session
During our first session, we will take time to get to know one another and begin understanding what brings you to counseling. We’ll discuss your concerns and goals and identify areas you would like to explore or work toward changing. I’ll also explain my approach to therapy and invite you to share what you hope to gain from counseling. Most importantly, the first session is an opportunity to begin creating a comfortable, supportive space that provides a foundation for our work together.
Strengths
My sessions are grounded in a warm, collaborative, and client-centered approach that recognizes that every person and family brings a unique set of experiences, relationships, strengths, and challenges. My clinical approach includes the integration of several therapeutic perspectives, including attachment-based, emotionally focused, cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused, internal family systems, systemic and faith-based approaches. This allows me to look beyond the immediate concern and consider the broader patterns, relationships, emotions, and experiences that may be influencing a client's life. Whether we are working through relationship or family conflict, parenting challenges, life transitions, communication difficulties, self-esteem, or family-of-origin experiences, my goal is to help clients develop greater self-awareness, strengthen their relationships, build confidence, and accomplish their therapeutic goals.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals and families who are navigating relationship challenges, family conflict, parenting concerns, or significant life changes. I also enjoy working with clients who want to strengthen their motivation, self-esteem, and confidence or who are seeking greater clarity and direction in their lives. Whether you are working through a difficult transition, improving communication and relationships, or hoping to reconnect with yourself and your strengths, I provide a supportive, collaborative space to help you identify your goals and work toward meaningful change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My clinical approaches include the following: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Faith-Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Systemic Therapy. Rather than relying on a single approach, I integrate elements of these therapeutic frameworks based on each client’s unique needs and experiences. This flexible and collaborative approach allows clients to help guide the direction of therapy, identify the changes they want to make, and work toward meaningful goals.
