James A. Taylor

30 years of experience

Hello, my name is James all the time. I'm here to offer 30 years of dealing with people's pain and concerns. I've been providing therapy to couples and individuals for the last two years online due to the Covid changes. One of my priorities is that when we talk it is private, and only you and I know what we discussed, and as long as you are safe and not intending to hurt anyone including yourself then everything we discuss is completely private. I'm older, at 65, and I'm doing this because it is what I do, counseling, and connecting. I will be accepting very few clients within a limited time frame. Sessions usually last 45 - 50 minutes with a few minutes left to keep your chart up-to-date. Sometimes, but not often, homework is given to help you practice what you have learned. I will be accepting clients on a limited basis, but for those with whom I work, I will be committed to providing professional services and confidential attention.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

It is within that first session that you can expect to discuss your life now, and while you grew up in the family you were raised in. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I focus on how you were raised and the influence that has on you today. However, my goal is to lead the conversation as I listen to your concerns. When you leave you should feel some sense of immediate relief, and maybe have some tools to help cope before seeing me again. I hope you will sign off with some peace and hope.

The treatment methods and tools I utilize

I have always been an empathetic person so I lean toward a "Client-Centered" therapy that involves a conversation between therapist and client that address behaviors and thoughts and beliefs about the issues at hand. I seldom ask you to do anything other than talk to me, but occasionally you might be asked to write or draw if the occasion asks for it. Some personality quiz or alcohol/drug inventory may be requested, and if necessary a PCP or Psychologist referral. I practice CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which deals with feelings, behaviors, and beliefs through conversation primarily.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am an exhorter, so I will encourage you by identifying the issues and then discussing them and their solutions as we discover them together. When people come to me in their pain that's when I feel most useful because I've been given a good listening ear, a compassionate heart, and a strong constitution. I'm older and I don't play games. It's not about money or prestige. It's about you and what you want.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Texas only, age 17-99, English-speaking male or female dealing with anxiety, depression, parenting, and relationship concerns will frame the focus of my work.
