New to Grow
I'm Randall Allen, a licensed therapist. I earned a Master of Counseling degree with High Distinction from Colorado Christian University in 2016. I am licensed in Arizona and New Mexico with over 10 years of professional work experience. My ideal client is the one who is willing & motivated to change who he or she is now to become someone better. I have a poster in my office that says, "If you want to be different, you must do something different." I'm here to help you discover what that "different" is for you. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, coping with grief and loss, and anger management. I typically use Choice Theory/Reality Therapy in the therapeutic process with my clients, though I borrow from other theories. I provide the tools for clients to use to help them live a more satisfying life. I will validate whatever emotions you are experiencing at the time. I'll work to create a safe environment where your thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take those steps towards change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.
In our first session, I will ask a number of questions about you to put into context your presenting issues. I will validate whatever emotions you are experiencing at the time. I'll work with you to create an open and safe environment where your thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take those steps towards change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey. We’ll work together in our sessions to make your goals a reality for you.
I've had varied life experiences and that makes me expressly qualified to help you on your journey toward a more satisfying life. I ask my client's self-evaluation questions so they might discover more about themselves during the therapeutic experience. We will work as a team to help improve your life. When necessary, I will challenge you. I will always validate your thoughts & emotions. I will encourage you to exercise your personal autonomy. Let's journey together toward that life contentment that you seek.
My ideal client is the one who is willing to do the work to become better. I have two favorite quotes: "Counseling doesn't work unless the client works" and "If you want something different, you must do something different." Again, I will validate your concerns, your thoughts, & your emotions. They are real--and we will integrate them into your therapeutic experience to achieve your best outcome.
Other specialties
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps the client use the evidence in their experiences to support or negate the thoughts they are experiencing. This, then, helps the client to develop more accurate thoughts about their situation.
Reality Therapy
Reality Therapy helps the client understand that they can control no one's behavior other than their own and helps them understand themselves by answering self-evaluation question presented by the clinician.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-centered therapy encourages the clinician to see the client with unconditional positive regard which then allows the therapeutic experience to the greatest sense of safety and comfort.
Christian Counseling
I enjoy working with clients who identify with the Christian faith. This allows me to integrate Scripture, Biblical principles, & prayer into the therapeutic process.
