Sarah Cappelli
Welcome! I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), a parent, a musician, and an animal-loving deep thinker with a big heart and a keen sense of attunement. I bring a fun personality alongside a grounded ability to serve as a fierce advocate who can comfortably sit at the bottom of the emotional ocean to keep my clients company in times of darkness - something that comes with age and the ability to grow while navigating life's inevitable peaks and valleys.
First session
In our first few sessions, our primary focus is to build a secure foundation, establish deep safety, and ensure you feel truly heard and valued. Coming into therapy can feel daunting, which is why our initial time together is intentionally structured to be unhurried and entirely collaborative. From our first sessions, you can expect: • A Welcoming, Low-Pressure Container: Whether I am your first therapist or your seventh, you will experience a calm, warm environment where there is no right or wrong way to show up. All parts of you—including your hesitation, anxiety, or grief—are fully welcome. • An Initial Exploration of Your Inner Architecture: We will begin gently unpacking what brought you to therapy. We will look at your history, personality, and immediate goals to start identifying the patterns, stressors, or negative self-talk that have felt too painful to manage alone. • A Customized Roadmap Built Together: Rather than forcing you into a rigid, one-size-fits-all framework, we will collaborate on a flexible path forward.
Strengths
The greatest internal strengths I bring to this work are my capacity for deep presence, emotional resilience, humor when appropriate, and unconditional positive regard. I possess the grounding required to remain steadily present while sitting with you at the depths of your emotional pain. In the therapeutic room, I offer a steady warmth and calm—a peaceful environment intentionally curated to mirror your own innate strengths and capacity to work through even the most challenging feelings. Within this safe space, I have the capacity to sit quietly and hold room for what arises—or gently push back and challenge distorted thinking and negative self-talk when appropriate. Ultimately, I believe when you are met with unwavering acceptance, you have the capacity to heal, dismantle old patterns, and grow.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is motivated to look inward while inviting a sense of curiosity as feelings begin to arise, connecting with what has felt difficult to manage and painful to work through alone. I am deeply drawn to working with individuals who are navigating terrains that I once faced alone and learned to overcome. My specialized areas of focus include: • High-Achievers & Creatives: Drawing from my personal history with performance anxiety and the arts, I help individuals manage stress, pressure, and perfectionism. • Medical Trauma & Illness: I support individuals coping with the complex psychological fallout from medical trauma or chronic illness. • Grief & Loss: I have a profound passion for serving those who are experiencing the devastating loss of a loved one. I explicitly recognize the deep, valid, and often disenfranchised pain of losing both human companions and our devoted pets. Whether I am your first therapist or your seventh, you will be greeted with warmth and value. Together, we will shine a gentle light on your inner world, listening to what your body, heart, and self need to move forward at a pace that you determine is right for you.
Treatment methods
Integrative
Welcome! In my integrative psychotherapy practice, treatment is individualized and tailored to your specific needs. Initially, we will work at your own pace to create a safe therapeutic space where all parts of yourself are welcome. Together, we will clarify your goals and determine what you hope to accomplish. Rather than forcing a "one-size-fits-all" approach, we will build a flexible plan based on your unique personality, history, and goals. This customized treatment combines tools from various psychological schools of thought and relies heavily on a collaborative, trusting relationship between us.
