Vikram Singh Parwana
Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, difficulty focusing, mood changes, past trauma, or the demands of everyday life? Maybe you have tried treatment before but still feel something is missing. You do not have to navigate these challenges alone. I work with adolescents and adults to understand their concerns and develop practical, personalized treatment plans that support meaningful change. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with doctoral-level training, I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy. I treat ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma-related conditions, mood disorders, stress, substance use concerns, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My experience includes outpatient psychiatry, telehealth, inpatient care, and substance use treatment.
With over 15 years of strong clinical background in both psychiatry and critical care nursing, I bring a holistic perspective to treatment that recognizes the connection between mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I take time to listen and understand you as a whole person, not simply a diagnosis. When medication is appropriate, I focus on thoughtful prescribing, ongoing monitoring, and shared decision-making. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, supportive psychotherapy, and psychodynamic principles to help clients develop practical coping skills and greater self-awareness. With more than 15 years of healthcare experience, including an extensive background in critical care nursing, I understand the important connection between physical, emotional, and mental health. Whether you are beginning treatment, returning to care, or looking for a provider who will listen and collaborate with you, my goal is to help you feel supported, understood, and empowered as you work toward greater stability, confidence, and quality of life.
First session
During our first session, we will take time to get to know each other and discuss what brings you to treatment. I will ask about your current concerns, symptoms, personal history, lifestyle factors, stressors, previous treatment experiences, and goals for care so I can better understand your unique needs and develop an individualized treatment plan. My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I want you to feel comfortable sharing at your own pace, knowing this is a safe and supportive space focused on your well-being. Together, we will explore the challenges you may be facing, identify areas you would like to improve, and discuss treatment options that may include therapy, coping strategies, lifestyle recommendations, medication management, or a combination of approaches. By the end of the first session, clients often leave with a clearer understanding of their symptoms, treatment goals, and next steps, along with reassurance that they have support throughout their mental health journey.
Strengths
I bring a calm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental approach to every session, creating a space where clients can feel comfortable being themselves and speaking openly about their concerns. I take time to listen and understand the whole person rather than focusing only on symptoms or a diagnosis. My approach combines evidence-based psychiatric care, thoughtful medication management, and therapeutic support tailored to each client’s individual needs and goals. With more than 15 years of diverse healthcare experience, I also bring a strong understanding of how physical health, emotional well-being, lifestyle, and life experiences are interconnected. I value collaboration and shared decision-making, helping clients understand their treatment options and feel confident and actively involved in their care.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve adolescents and adults who are seeking support for anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, mood disorders, substance use concerns, life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional burnout. I work well with clients who may feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or uncertain about how to move forward in their personal or professional lives. My approach is especially helpful for individuals who value a collaborative, compassionate, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where they can openly discuss their concerns and work toward meaningful change. I also have experience supporting clients from culturally diverse backgrounds and understand the importance of providing individualized, culturally sensitive care. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to improve their emotional well-being, develop healthier coping skills, strengthen relationships, increase self-awareness, and achieve greater balance and stability in their daily lives.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the primary evidence-based approaches I use in my practice to help clients identify and change negative thought patterns, emotional responses, and behaviors that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, substance use, and other mental health concerns. My experience with CBT comes from working with diverse patient populations in outpatient mental health, telehealth, and substance use treatment settings. I use CBT techniques to help clients develop healthier coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, challenge cognitive distortions, and build practical skills that support long-term recovery and wellness. In my virtual practice, I take a collaborative and patient-centered approach, tailoring CBT interventions to each client’s unique needs, goals, and cultural background. I focus on creating a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable exploring challenges and developing meaningful, sustainable changes in their daily lives.
Humanistic
Humanistic therapy is another approach I incorporate into my practice, focusing on the individual as a whole person and emphasizing empathy, self-awareness, personal growth, and self-acceptance. This treatment method helps clients better understand their emotions, values, life experiences, and personal strengths in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. My experience with humanistic therapy comes from working with clients in outpatient mental health, telehealth, and substance use treatment settings, where building trust and therapeutic rapport are essential. I use techniques such as active listening, reflective communication, and person-centered care to help clients feel heard, empowered, and supported throughout their treatment journey. In my virtual practice, I strive to create a compassionate and collaborative space where clients can openly discuss their concerns, develop insight, and work toward meaningful personal and emotional growth at their own pace.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based approach I use to help individuals strengthen their motivation for change and build confidence in achieving personal goals. This method is especially effective for clients dealing with anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, behavioral changes, and treatment ambivalence. My experience with Motivational Interviewing comes from working in outpatient mental health, telehealth, ICU, and substance use treatment settings, where I have supported clients through various stages of change and recovery. I use MI techniques such as reflective listening, open-ended questioning, empathy, and collaborative goal setting to help clients explore their concerns, identify barriers, and develop healthier coping strategies. In my virtual practice, I focus on creating a respectful and supportive environment where clients feel empowered to make positive changes at their own pace while actively participating in their treatment and recovery process.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy is a treatment approach I use to help clients explore how past experiences, unconscious patterns, relationships, and emotional conflicts may influence their current thoughts, behaviors, and mental health challenges. This method can be especially helpful for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and personality-related concerns. My experience with psychodynamic therapy comes from working with clients in outpatient mental health and telehealth settings, including Veterans Affairs, and from my clinical training at Jackson Health System community mental health services. I focus on helping clients develop greater self-awareness, identify recurring emotional patterns, and better understand the connection between past experiences and present behaviors. In my virtual practice, I provide a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients can openly explore emotions, interpersonal relationships, and personal challenges while working toward emotional growth, insight, and healthier coping mechanisms.
