New to Grow
Hi, I'm Haley! In addition to my full-time role in community mental health, I run a private practice dedicated to collaborative care. You are the driver on your ride of Life, and I am hear to help you navigate and decide which way to turn next! I believe that humans are beautifully complex, and I place your unique voice at the center of our time together. My goal is to support you in finding a healthy balance between showing up for yourself and managing your relationships with others. Keeping awareness that this balance may very well look different for each individual.
During your first therapy session, you can expect a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where we will begin getting to know each other. The first session is an opportunity for you to share what brings you to therapy, discuss any concerns or challenges you are experiencing, and talk about what you hope to gain from the process. I may ask questions about your current symptoms, relationships, family history, school or work experiences, strengths, and coping skills. This helps me better understand your experiences and the areas where you may need support. You are free to share at your own pace, and there is no expectation that you discuss everything during the first appointment.
In your first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make progress and how you want to spend our time together. We'll look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences; and vice versa. I bring a mix of challenging you and simply sitting with you and your emotions, to manage your feelings and change your quality of life for the better. I feel the therapy experience and process is flexible and can be molded in whatever way most benefits the individual and their needs. I strive to bring gentleness, calm energy, humor, and realness to the center of our time.
An ideal therapy client is not someone who has all the answers or is free from challenges, but rather someone who is willing to engage in the therapeutic process with openness and curiosity. They are open to building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, honesty, and mutual respect. They are willing to reflect on their experiences, consider new perspectives, and practice skills discussed in sessions. Progress does not require perfection; rather, it requires a commitment to showing up, participating in the process, and maintaining hope that change is possible. Regardless of their background or presenting concerns, ideal clients are those who are willing to engage in the process of growth and allow themselves the opportunity to heal and thrive.
I utilize CBT to help clients identify the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This may look like: - Identifying automatic negative thoughts that contribute to anxiety, depression, anger, or low self-esteem. -Teaching clients to replace negative thoughts with more balanced and realistic perspectives. -Assisting clients in developing problem-solving skills to address stressors effectively..
MI (Motivational Interviewing) may help you explore your own reasons for making changes in your life. Rather than telling you what to do, I work with you to understand what is important to you, what goals you have, and what might be getting in the way of achieving them. Together, we look at both the benefits and challenges of change so that you can make decisions that feel right for you. During our sessions, I may ask open-ended questions, listen carefully to your experiences, reflect back what I'm hearing, and help you identify your strengths. If you're feeling unsure about making a change, we'll explore those mixed feelings without judgment. The goal is to help you build confidence in your ability to make positive changes and find motivation from within yourself rather than feeling pressured by others.
Person-Centered Therapy is an approach that focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can openly discuss your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I believe that you are the expert on your own life and that you have the capacity for growth and positive change. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to listen, understand your perspective, and help you gain insight into yourself and your experiences. During our sessions, I will work to understand your feelings and experiences from your point of view. I will offer empathy, acceptance, and support while encouraging you to explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace. By feeling heard and understood, many people are able to develop greater self-awareness, self-confidence, and clarity about the changes they want to make in their lives.
