Janet Catalano

LISW20 years of experience

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges or caught in patterns that no longer serve you, you don’t have to navigate them alone. As a clinical social worker and addiction counselor, I am committed to helping individuals navigate mental health concerns, substance use disorders, and complex life challenges with compassion and understanding. My approach is strengths-based and focused on helping you develop a more accurate, balanced, and compassionate view of yourself. Together, we’ll identify your strengths, challenge limiting beliefs, and build the confidence and resilience needed to create meaningful, lasting change. I strive to create a nonjudgmental, inclusive, and affirming space where every individual feels respected, heard, and valued.

I strive to create a nonjudgmental, inclusive, and affirming space where every individual feels respected, heard, and valued.

With extensive training in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I provide a safe and structured environment to explore vulnerabilities, develop healthier coping strategies, and work toward the life you want to build. If you’re ready to take the next step toward greater self-understanding, resilience, and empowerment, I invite you to reach out. You don’t have to make this journey alone.

First session

In our first session, we will spend time getting to know one another and beginning to establish a genuine therapeutic relationship built on trust, safety, and mutual respect. We will explore what brings you to therapy, what you hope to gain from the experience, and what feels most important for us to address together. My hope is that you leave your first session with greater clarity, a sense of direction and potential treatment goals, and perhaps most importantly, a sense of comfort and hope. Reaching out for help can be one of the most difficult steps to take, and I want you to know that taking that step is meaningful in itself.

Strengths

I offer a nonjudgmental and flexible approach that builds upon the strengths, skills, and resilience you already possess. Together, we can identify those strengths, develop new skills, and cultivate a more accurate and compassionate view of yourself.

Ideal clients

All clients are ideal clients, I enjoy working with a diverse clientele and expanding my worldview. My work includes individuals across cultures, age groups, sexual orientations, and a wide range of life experiences and challenges. I am open to exploring whatever concerns, goals, or areas of growth are most meaningful to each individual. I strive to approach every person unconditionally, recognizing the dignity and worth of each individual I encounter. You are the expert on your own life, and I honor your right to self-determination and autonomy. My role is to meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and work collaboratively with you to identify the path forward that feels right for you.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As we get to know one another, I believe a trusting and genuine therapeutic relationship can develop. Within that relationship, we can begin to explore your experiences with greater openness and curiosity, allowing new insights and perspectives to emerge naturally over time.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a collaborative, person-centered approach to help you explore what you want for your life and what may be getting in the way of those goals. Rather than telling you what you should do or making decisions for you, I work alongside you to explore your own reasons for change. Change can be complicated. It is normal to feel uncertain, have mixed feelings, or struggle to know where to begin. This approach provides a space to explore that without judgment while helping you identify what matters most to you. Through open conversation, reflection, and genuine curiosity, we can identify your own motivations for change and build confidence in your ability to take meaningful steps forward. My goal is to support your autonomy and self-determination while helping you recognize that you already possess many of the strengths and resources needed to create change.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a person-centered approach to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected, and accepted for who you are. I believe that meaningful therapy begins with a genuine human connection and a space where you can speak openly without fear of judgment. Rather than approaching therapy with assumptions I strive to understand your experiences from your perspective. You are the expert on your own life, and you should have an active role in determining what you want to explore and the changes you want to work towards. I aim to create an environment where you can feel safe enough to explore difficult experiences and develop greater self-understanding. My role is not to direct your journey, but to walk alongside you as you discover what is meaningful to you and identify the changes you want to make. I believe that within a supportive and trusting therapeutic relationship, people can develop greater confidence in themselves, gain new insights, and move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
