Summer Rae Singer
Aloha, I am a 33-year-old graduate of UH Hilo, and I am a licensed mental health counselor. I live on the Big Island, and I am a nonjudgmental humanistic counselor. I have worked for two years with college students and five years with local children and families. I put my clients first, and I focus on seeing the world through my clients' eyes.
First session
I always have several questions for my clients on our first session. I want to know about any previous mental health issues, struggles, and things to overcome. I also want to get an idea of your strengths, and values. Besides that, I am just excited to meet you and build a relationship that is healing and helpful!
Strengths
I am a science nerd at heart, and I love learning about technical and complex topics. I am a great person to help brainstorm, always finding new ways to reframe and reimagine with my clients. I speak openly and honestly, and I maintain unconditional positive regard for my client no matter what the circumstances.
Ideal clients
I have had a lot of experience with college aged people, and with teens. I typically see clients aged 14 to 35, but I have experience with everyone (ages from about 5 to 60). I am very knowledgeable about neuroscience and how medications impact your mental health. I have extensive experience with those going through severe depression, anxiety, and life transitions. I have empathy and understanding of a broad range of income and social class levels. I have experience understanding and navigating the challenges of high income and high demand lifestyles.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I practice a person-centered therapeutic approach, with some practical skills from other clinical styles. Person-centered means that I value unconditional acceptance of the whole person, and I am as honest and empathic as I am able. This approach aims to create a space of freedom and growth, often unavailable in our daily lives. My practice values autonomy, empathy, and the positive potential of the client.
