New to Grow
Hello, my name is Aliyah Mitchell, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor serving individuals throughout New York State via secure telehealth therapy. I work with teens, young adults, and adults who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and difficulties managing intense emotions. I take a collaborative and individualized approach to therapy, recognizing that every person's experiences and needs are unique. Depending on your goals, I may incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as, mindfulness-based interventions, and strengths-based techniques. Together, we will work to better understand the challenges you're facing, develop effective coping skills, and build on your existing strengths.
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship begins with trust, so my first priority is creating a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and heard. During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brought you to therapy. You will have the opportunity to share your concerns, current challenges, and any goals you hope to achieve. I may ask questions about your personal history, relationships, past and present stressors, and mental health experiences to gain a better understanding of your unique situation. We'll also discuss what you hope to get out of therapy, explore how I can best support you, and determine an appropriate frequency for sessions. Most importantly, there is no pressure to share everything at once. Therapy is a process, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. If you're feeling nervous about your first appointment, that's completely understandable. My goal is to help you feel welcomed, understood, and confident that you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone.
One of my greatest strengths as a counselor is my ability to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring difficult emotions and life experiences. I strive to meet each client with empathy, understanding, and genuine curiosity, helping them feel heard and valued throughout the therapeutic process. At the same time, I believe that growth often requires looking beneath the surface. While I provide support and validation, I am also willing to gently challenge clients when appropriate and encourage them to explore patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be contributing to their struggles. I have a strong ability to recognize recurring or unhelpful patterns and help clients develop insight into how these patterns impact their emotions, relationships, and overall well-being. My approach is collaborative and active. Rather than simply talking through problems, I work with clients to identify practical strategies and coping skills they can use in their daily lives. Clients may occasionally receive homework, worksheets, or other resources to help reinforce what we discuss in session and support continued growth between appointments. My goal is to help clients not only feel understood, but also gain the insight, skills, and confidence needed to create lasting and meaningful change.
I help teens, and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, overwhelming emotions, and relationship challenges. From the outside, you may appear successful, responsible, and capable. But internally, you may be battling constant worry, overthinking, people-pleasing, or emotional exhaustion. You may feel stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns, struggle to set boundaries, or find yourself carrying the weight of everyone else's needs while neglecting your own. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, and unsure how to create lasting change. They want more than just temporary relief, they want to feel confident, emotionally balanced, and in control of their lives. Together, we'll work to understand the patterns keeping you stuck, develop practical coping skills, strengthen your relationships, and build a life that feels more aligned with who you truly are. If you're ready to stop merely surviving and start feeling more grounded, confident, and fulfilled, therapy can help.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that helps you understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. CBT focuses on identifying unhelpful thought patterns and learning healthier ways to respond to stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions. In therapy, I will help you learn tools to challenge negative thinking, manage overwhelming emotions, and develop coping strategies that support lasting change. CBT is goal-oriented, collaborative, and focused on helping you build skills you can use in everyday life.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based approach to therapy that helps you manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop healthier coping strategies. DBT combines acceptance and change, helping you learn how to navigate difficult emotions while building practical tools for everyday life. DBT focuses on four main skill areas: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This approach can be especially helpful for individuals struggling with anxiety, mood instability, relationship difficulties, impulsive behaviors, or feeling emotionally overwhelmed. The goal of DBT is to help you feel more balanced, confident, and in control of their emotions and reactions.
