Hi there! My name is Troyana Smalls, but you can call me Troy! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Anger Management Specialist with 5+ years in the mental health field. With experience in inpatient, outpatient, emergency/crisis, and correctional settings, my diverse background allows me to work with clients from all walks of life, and utilize an eclectic approach to therapy. My passion is helping clients rediscover their purpose, by providing a safe and nonjudgmental atmosphere to explore their innermost selves and learn to navigate the ebbs and flows of life. I aspire to inspire growth and motivate positive change in clients on their journey to optimal mental health and wellness. If you're ready to take the first step towards your best life, let's get started! I look forward to working with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First session consists of the following: - Discussion of informed consent, release of information, late fees, and parameters of confidentiality - Intake assessment - Expectations and goals for treatment

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Authenticity, genuineness, and humor are my greatest assets as a clinician. I do not believe that therapists should be a blank slate, and I will always be my real self in our sessions. Clients deserve to know that their therapist is a real person with a real personality, not some robot bore regurgitating textbook therapy jargon. I genuinely care about my client's progress, and that means I may not always tell them what they want to hear or what sounds good. Healing isn't always sunshine and rainbows. It gets gritty and ugly, but if you work with me, you'll have a genuine partner in those trenches with you. Also, I like to kiki with my clients. Taking life too seriously will run you (and me) into the ground. There's a time to be serious, and a time to lighten up! I'm typically lighthearted and always up for a good jokey joke.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

If you're ready to work toward positive change, I'm the therapist for you. If you're ready to reach your maximum potential and become your best self, I'm the therapist for you. If you're ready to resolve feelings of anger and resentment, I'm the therapist that can help you through it. If you've been charged with an anger-related crime and your attorney believes you would benefit from an anger evaluation, I'm the therapist for you. If you've been court-ordered to anger management classes, I'm definitely the therapist for you!

My treatment methods

Eclectic

Therapy is not a one-size fits all thing. I like to integrate different approaches and techniques to address different needs. For example, one week we may need to use some cognitive restructuring (CBT) to identify and challenge negative thoughts, and the next week we may use cognitive defusion (ACT) to observe and acknowledge negative thoughts without actually engaging them. Both weeks, those thoughts did not get to hang around or get the best of you.

Group Therapy

Currently offering 2 groups: - Processing group: Providing clients the opportunity to process and find community with others facing similar challenges. - Anger Management group: Teaching clients evidence-based practices to manage anger and stress. Accepting both voluntary and court-ordered clients. Program consists of 12 weekly sessions, insurance not accepted for court-ordered clients. All groups conducted virtually.
