LMHC, 5 years of experience
New to Grow
Hi, I’m Crystal Rollefson, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Florida. Since moving from Hawaii in late 2021, I’ve been working with a small private practice while also beginning to grow my own practice. I hold a Certificate in Play Therapy from Capella University and am currently pursuing credentials to become a Registered Play Therapist in the state of Florida. My professional journey began in substance abuse counseling, where I spent two years supporting adults with addictions, criminal justice involvement, and co-occurring mental health conditions. My approach to therapy is integrative and holistic, combining client-centered care, cognitive-behavioral techniques (CBT), mindfulness, and play therapy principles. I believe in empowering individuals by helping them recognize and build upon their strengths—even when those strengths feel hard to find. Together, we can uncover them. I’m also a strong advocate for self-care and self-love as essential components of mental and physical well-being. Outside of the therapy room, you’ll find me practicing yoga, enjoying CrossFit, lifting at the gym, camping, or paddleboarding. I strive to bring the same energy of balance and intentional living into my work with clients. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where you can heal, grow, and thrive—at your own pace and on your own terms.
In our first session, I’d like to keep things fairly simple and focused on getting to know you better. We’ll start with some brief introductions and go over your background, the challenges you’re currently facing, and what you see as your personal strengths. This will help me better understand how to support you and begin creating a treatment plan that fits your goals and needs. There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to—this is your space, and we’ll go at your pace.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to draw from an integrated approach, combining client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques (CBT), and mindfulness-based strategies to support your overall well-being. I believe in meeting you where you are and tailoring our work together based on your unique needs, goals, and lived experiences. With both formal education and personal life experience, I bring a creative and flexible perspective into our sessions. I aim to offer meaningful, individualized feedback that supports your personal growth and healing journey. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and I’m committed to walking alongside you with compassion, curiosity, and respect as we explore what works best for you.
I work with clients ages 5 and up, supporting a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns. Some of the common issues I address include (but are not limited to): Behavioral challenges in children and adolescents Substance use and recovery Depression and mood disorders (including Bipolar Disorder) Anxiety and panic ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Psychosis and thought disorders Grief and loss Major life transitions, such as relationship difficulties or job changes My approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and practical tools for change. I help clients improve communication skills, establish and maintain healthy boundaries, and gain a deeper understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we’ll work to recognize and shift negative thinking patterns that may be holding you back from feeling your best. Our work will focus on exploring challenges, developing effective coping strategies, and building healthier relationships—so you can lead a more balanced, empowered, and fulfilling life.
This method is the most common method I use with children, adolescents, and adults, I explain how it is used during sessions, such as specific situations you may be discussing.
Use of mindfulness techniques can be discussed to better manage anxiety, negative thought patterns, substance abuse and/or use symptoms, and anger management.
I will use several different approaches based on client needs. Such as Client-centered, strength based, CBT, and mindfulness. I also use Play Therapy technques for younger children virtually.
This method is often used in substance abuse disorders but used with other issues that can help people resolve and strengthen motivation for change for their specific goals.
This focuses on the person's strengths and resources to improve their quality of life. This approach is rooted in the idea people are agents of change in their own lives, highlighting a person's resilience, positive qualities, and their strengths.
