I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California (MFT51546), a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH 342), and Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. Having my own immigration experiences and having lived in 4 different countries, I approach my work through the perspectives of culture, systems and the interconnections of our human existence. My background in literary arts as a poetic writer who speak 3 languages has also informed how creativity, language, and metaphors work in trauma and healing. I have worked in various community-based organizations with client groups from disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds. I work through a relational-cultural theoretical perspective to support my clients toward their own empowerment. I have worked in the mental health sector for over 20 years and been licensed since May 2012.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will be getting to know each other because creating a safe space is critical. You will get the space to speak about your concerns and the context around it. I will ask clarifying questions and we will create a plan together to tackle the issues you present.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a therapist is the ability to create a warm, inclusive, and safe space for my clients, and the ability to see them for their wholeness, both their difficulties and their capacities. I am authentic and practical as well, and grounded in my years of experience in working with marginalized communities so that I can understand what keeps people stuck, and what can empower them to reach their goals. I see my clients as individuals doing the best that they can, given the circumstances and conditions that they are in, and that even with the difficulties, they have their own resilience to survive. My passion is to be the support in whatever I can do empower those who are simply surviving to thrive and be the author of their own lives.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with clients who are struggling to be authentic and have difficulties with realizing their identity and navigating relationships with others, as well as those who are facing existential issues during times of life changes and challenges.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I have worked with clients who have various kinds of trauma, from childhood abuse to cultural trauma to secondary trauma. From the perspective of trauma-informed care, I start from the basis that our experiences shape who we are, and that we have internal resources and resilience to survive, and so, we can also do the same to thrive and move beyond the trauma narratives. One of the aspects of trauma experience is the disconnection and lack of recognition of the integrity of ourselves, and so I help clients with becoming connected to self and community, and to acknowledge, mirror and support their resilient selves to become whole again.

Eclectic

I adapt my therapy methods to what my clients need, and I am trained in CBT, psychodynamic, humanistic, expressive arts, motivational-interviewing, solution-focused, family systems and other integrative methods, so that I can have as many tools possible to support the wellbeing and facilitate healing for my clients.
