Hi there! My name is Kaila Gray and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California. I am excited you have stopped by my profile & are looking into therapy! Please read some more about me below to see if I could be a good match for you. I have been working in the mental health field for some time now and I have a wide variety of experiences. I have my bachelors degree in psychology and a masters degree in counseling and guidance. I have spent a majority of my career working with students in the school setting as a school counselor. Just recently started working via tele therapy because I was hearing from coworkers, families, local community and students that I work with that there were no therapist with open availability. I want to do my part to help those that are brave enough to look for help. I believe that therapy is not a one size fits all. I am flexible and willing to build sessions based around what YOU need. I will provide you a space to learn and grow with no judgement and all the compassion I have to offer. I believe that we can overcome our struggles & I want to help you do that!
Before the first session you will receive an email from me with all of my contact information along with what we will be covering in the first session along with common items clients bring to session. In the first session we will talk about a lot of things. We will mainly be getting to know each other. I will tell you about my experience and how I like to work with clients. Often times if a client is uncomfortable in the beginning, I will invite the parent to stay for my introduction so they can get to know me too! I will ask you some questions to get to know you and get to know how I can help you. If the client is younger I will invite the parent back at the end of the session to ask them questions too!
I love helping clients develop their coping skills, motivation & strengths over the course of our sessions. I will meet each client where they are at while providing empathy & support! I will be your biggest cheerleader through this process. Something that I think is really special about me is that I believe therapy is a collaborative process. I will often check in with you at the end of sessions to see how it is going for you. I will ask what you are liking and not liking. I ask this because I want you to get the best care from me and I believe it is so important to have that open communication so I know how to be better for YOU
At this time I am accepting clients in 1st-12th grade. A majority of my experience is in the K-12 setting that this is where I feel like I can have the biggest positive impact at this point in my career. I know therapy can be a scary thing but I hope my clients are wanting to meet (being a little scared is normal at first), able to communicate via Telehealth and have a open mindset for therapy.
Using Narrative Therapy, I believe that the problems is the problem and the person is not the problem. I like to explain it as if the problem is a little chirping bird on your shoulder and we have to figure out how to flick it off to leave you alone.
