I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to helping older teens and young adults navigate life’s challenges, particularly around identity, trauma, and emotional well-being. As an African American female therapist, I blend my personal experiences with evidence-based approaches to create a safe, empowering environment. I believe in holistic care that addresses not just the individual but their entire system, so clients can achieve balanced and lasting growth.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I strive to create a warm, judgment-free environment where you can share your story, concerns, and hopes for therapy. We’ll spend time exploring your background and any immediate challenges, as well as clarifying your short-term and long-term goals. We’ll also talk about how therapy works, discuss possible approaches—such as DBT, CBT, or mindfulness—and begin tailoring a plan that respects your individual strengths, cultural context, and personal values.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths lie in my ability to integrate professional expertise with genuine empathy and cultural competence. I bring a systems perspective to my work, recognizing how your environment, relationships, and generational influences can shape your well-being. Clients appreciate my down-to-earth style, focus on practical skill-building, and the empowering space I create for them to explore, heal, and grow. By combining evidence-based modalities with a person-centered approach, I’m able to guide clients toward meaningful, long-lasting change.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I work best with individuals ages 15 to 35 who are seeking support around anxiety, depression, trauma, or identity exploration. Clients who benefit most from my approach are those open to a collaborative process that considers culture, family dynamics, and societal influences. I especially enjoy supporting those who identify as minorities, or anyone looking for a therapist who can understand and validate their unique experiences. My goal is to help clients recognize their own resilience and cultivate the coping skills necessary to thrive.

My treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I integrate mindfulness-based interventions into many of my sessions to help clients cultivate self-awareness and remain present. Drawing from my mindfulness training and personal practice, I guide clients through exercises that encourage nonjudgmental observation of their thoughts and feelings. By harnessing mindfulness techniques—such as breathing exercises and grounding techniques—clients become better equipped to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and develop healthier emotional responses.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT’s core principle—learning to accept life’s challenges while committing to meaningful action—resonates strongly with the young people I treat. I have incorporated ACT techniques into my practice to help clients develop greater psychological flexibility and learn how to handle difficult thoughts and feelings without becoming overwhelmed by them. This process often leads to lasting change, improved self-esteem, and a more purposeful sense of direction.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is one of my primary therapeutic approaches for working with teens and young adults facing issues like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I have extensive experience in identifying and challenging negative or unhelpful thought patterns, then replacing them with more constructive perspectives. By collaboratively setting goals and developing practical strategies, I help clients actively work on changing their behaviors and mindset.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I employ TF-CBT’s structured approach to guide clients toward understanding how traumatic experiences impact thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to increase self-awareness and validate experiences. Utilizing TF-CBT techniques helps me empower my clients to reduce the emotional distress associated with the trauma, rebuild a sense of safety, and ultimately regain control over their lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I often incorporate DBT techniques to help clients develop healthier coping strategies, increase distress tolerance, and nurture more fulfilling relationships. Using this structured, skills-based approach, I support clients as they learn to balance acceptance and change, ultimately enhancing their overall resilience and emotional well-being. My experience includes training and hands-on application of DBT skills—mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
