Hello, I’m Nikelson Pierre, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a doctorate degree dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care for adults, adolescents, and families. My approach is rooted in collaboration, respect, and empathy—creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore challenges, build insight, and move toward meaningful change. In my practice, I integrate holistic, person-centered care with the latest in psychiatric research. Mental health is deeply interconnected with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being, so I take time to understand each client’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals. My treatment philosophy combines medication management with psychotherapy-informed support, emphasizing education, empowerment, and shared decision-making. I believe clients achieve the best outcomes when they are active participants in their care. The process begins with an initial comprehensive evaluation, where we discuss current concerns, medical and mental health history, lifestyle factors, and personal goals. Together, we create a personalized treatment plan that may include medication, supportive therapy, lifestyle recommendations, or collaboration with other healthcare providers. Follow-up visits focus on evaluating progress, addressing any side effects or concerns, and adjusting the plan as needed. I am committed to fostering an environment of partnership—where clients feel heard, understood, and valued. Whether you’re managing anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, or life transitions, my goal is to help you develop the tools and confidence needed to restore balance and improve overall well-being. If you’re ready to take the next step toward improved mental health, I’m here to support you with compassion, professionalism, and care.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

What to Expect From Your First Session With Me: Starting mental health care can bring up many emotions—relief, hope, uncertainty, nervousness, or even fear. If you are coming to your first session with me, know that you are not expected to have everything figured out, explain yourself perfectly, or know exactly what you need. My role is to meet you where you are and guide the process in a way that feels respectful, clear, and supportive. Your first session is about understanding you as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms or a diagnosis Creating a Safe and Supportive Space From the beginning, my priority is to create a calm, non-judgmental environment where you can speak openly. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to show up. Some clients talk a lot; others need time to warm up. Some feel emotional; others feel numb or guarded. All of this is okay. You will not be rushed. You will not be pressured to share anything you are not ready to discuss. We move at a pace that feels appropriate for you. Confidentiality, respect, and emotional safety are foundational to how I work. Getting to Know You and Your Concerns A large portion of the first session is focused on understanding what brought you in. I will ask open-ended questions such as: What concerns led you to seek care now? How have your symptoms been affecting your daily life? What feels most important for me to understand about you? We may talk about anxiety, mood, sleep, stress, trauma, relationships, work, or major life changes. You do not need to present things in a specific order. We organize the information together. If you are unsure how to describe what you are feeling, that’s completely normal. Part of my role is helping you put words to experiences that may feel confusing or overwhelming. Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I take a comprehensive and holistic approach to assessment. During your first session, we will likely review: Mental health history (past diagnoses, therapy, medications, hospitalizations if any) Current symptoms (emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioral) Medical history that may impact mental health Sleep, appetite, energy, and concentration Stressors and supports in your life Substance use, if relevant, discussed without judgment Trauma history, only to the extent you are comfortable sharing initially Family mental health history, when helpful This information helps me understand patterns, con

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What most stands out about my work is the balance I bring between clinical expertise and human presence. Clients often tell me they feel genuinely heard, respected, and understood—not rushed, minimized, or reduced to a diagnosis. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that lasting change happens when care is both evidence-based and relational. I do not believe mental health treatment should feel transactional. I believe it should feel intentional, individualized, and empowering. A Whole-Person, Trauma-Informed Perspective I approach care through a holistic and trauma-informed lens. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I look at the broader picture: life experiences, nervous system patterns, cultural context, relationships, medical factors, and strengths. Many symptoms—anxiety, depression, emotional reactivity, shutdown, insomnia—are not signs of personal failure. They are often adaptive responses to stress or past experiences. Understanding this reduces shame and opens the door to meaningful healing. This perspective allows clients to: Make sense of their symptoms rather than fear them Feel safer exploring difficult topics Develop self-compassion alongside skill-building Collaborative, Not Directive A defining feature of my approach is shared decision-making. I do not dictate treatment or assume I know what is best without your input. Instead, I provide clear clinical guidance while honoring your autonomy, values, and lived experience. Clients are encouraged to: Ask questions Express concerns or hesitations Participate actively in treatment decisions This collaboration builds trust and leads to better engagement and outcomes. Thoughtful, Conservative Medication Management When medication is part of treatment, my approach is intentional and measured. I prioritize: Careful assessment before prescribing Starting with the lowest effective dose Monitoring response and side effects closely Adjusting only when clinically necessary I avoid unnecessary polypharmacy and quick fixes. Medication is viewed as a tool to support stability and clarity—not as a replacement for self-understanding or coping skills. Many clients appreciate that medication decisions feel explained, collaborative, and unpressured. Therapy-Informed Psychiatric Care Even when the primary focus is medication management, my sessions are therapy-informed. I integrate elements of supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and reflective dialogue

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

As a mental health provider and a person by nature who is very open minded, I am open to serve all individuals. No matter who you are, where you come from, your sexual orientation, cultural, social, financial background etc... I will let you be "YOU" while providing an holistic care. As always, I go above and beyond to make my patients feel comfortable, heard, working together with them and we discuss together the appropriate treatment. Welcome!!!!!
