Hello, I’m Dr. Katie Ohene-Gambill (she/her/hers). I’m a licensed psychologist based out of the Bay Area in California who specializes in working with Black, Indigenous, and People of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA folx, adults in various career fields, and college mental health/young adults. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings including: community mental health and private & public university counseling centers such as The University of Portland, Virginia Tech, The University of California, Irvine, and Stanford University. I draw from my integrated clinical approach and identities as an African American/Black & second-generation Ghanaian-American woman who is passionate about uplifting the voices of BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our initial intake session, we will discuss confidentiality and its limits, my therapeutic framework, and information about my therapy rates. Next, the initial intake will include gathering information regarding your personal history (i.e., mental health history, risk assessment, family history, education & social history, current present concern(s), and therapy goals). We will also discuss frequency of sessions (e.g., weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly), availability, and a treatment plan that fits your needs!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am really passionate about seeing you grow and thrive! You are always the expert on you and I consider myself as the person in the passenger seat on the journey of healing. We may take pauses to digest and process so we can better understand the root of your concerns. I also hold my clients accountable for the work they are doing outside of therapy. I encourage you to be an active participant in the therapy process so you can feel some relief!

My treatment methods

Integrative

Through creating a collaborative and inclusive treatment plan, I work with clients to build skills to reduce various levels of distress, improve mood, process life, work, and college transitions, and navigate interpersonal concerns. I invite clients to explore how they can shift/reframe unhelpful thought narratives, build closure for themselves, and find meaningful ways to thrive in their lives
