I am a warm and accepting counselor who brings wisdom, security, and professionalism into the counseling room.
I have experience working with many populations, including children, adolescents, and couples. I am comfortable working with all ages, stages, and phases of life. I have experience in treating anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, trauma, grief, substance use/addiction, ADD/ADHD, and other behavioral issues including ASD. My approach is person-centered and holistic, which means that I look at the whole person: their environment, relationships, and the connection between body, mind, and soul.
First session
My clients leave their first session with hope and a desire to return. I give my clients resources to underscore what is learned in session and I offer uplifting validation; there is humor but always and only when it is needed. My clients feel a relief that there is a place to come back to which is comfortable and caring.
Strengths
I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling earned with high distinction from Liberty University. I am trained in many clinical and evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing (MI). I am also skilled in solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), substance use treatment, couples and marriage counseling, childhood and parenting issues, mindfulness, and faith-based counseling.
Ideal clients
I will counsel all who seek my care, my ideal client decides to commit to a therapeutic relationship for as long as it serves them. I am comfortable treating all ages and stages, including children, couples, and individuals. I have played with children, counseled high conflict couples' situations, and grieving elderly clients. I have counseled people across demographics from diverse perspectives always able to adapt to the needs of the client.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is the gold standard evidence-based therapeutic modality; however, I am also strongly holistic and person-centered in my approach. I am able to adapt the therapeutic approach to meet the needs of the client. CBT as a modality of choice offers a way to challenge thought processes which support unwanted behaviors. In counseling, we can explore, identify, and restructure those thoughts which do not serve the client. The CBT approach teaches the client how to replace old thoughts and behaviors with new thoughts which support the desired change. Clients gain relief from their distress and learn skills to support lasting change.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I enjoy meeting the client where they are and walking beside them with compassion; it comes naturally to me. In mental health counseling, we understand the array of human experience and the need for validation. Most of time, the mental or emotional distress is a function of coping with the trials of life and does not have to be considered pathological.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy is an approach summarized as being able to adjust your sails to the storms of life, we learn skills to strengthen psychological flexibility and regain resiliency.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
Often a client wants change quickly, there is no need to prolong treatment for the motivated client, therefore, we can get to work and focus on goals as frequently as desired within a time frame to the liking of the client.
Attachment-based
Many wounds we carry can be traced to early attachment; we can explore where these core thoughts and emotions come from and explore how to heal from them.
