Jordan Briggs
Hi, I'm Jordan. I'm an avid hiker, gardener, and mother. I love being outdoors as much as my life will allow it, which varies a lot day to day. Over the past few years I've found a passion in working with OCD, PTSD, and related diagnoses with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I believe it's important to identify areas where we avoid and hold ourselves back and make sure we are approaching them more openly before we box ourselves in too deeply. I am trained in ERP, DBT skills and DBT-PE (Prolonged Exposure), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). As a therapist I aim to find a balance between meeting everyone where they're at as well as challenging them to identify their barriers and get out of their comfort zones.
First session
In our first session we will get to know each other, discuss what brings you in and what you'd like to work on, and discuss the process of therapy. If it feels like we are a good fit for each other we can discuss treatment planning and moving forward.
Strengths
I believe in goal-oriented therapy that moves you closer to being in line with your values, taking accountability, and taking care of yourself. After setting a reliable base of DBT skills we can successfully address trauma, anxiety, depression, and other barriers that are holding you back.
Ideal clients
Dealing with OCD and related behaviors, intense anxiety, trauma, or other issues getting in the way of living the life you want to live. If you want to improve your daily life through taking steps to improve your mental health. Setting and reviewing regular goals. Practicing skills to help you navigate daily life situations. You feel like you're not living the life you want to live.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use ACT to establish what your values are and how to move towards a life worth living.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT to establish skills in emotion regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance before moving on to tackling trauma or complex issues. It is important to have a solid base of skills to use before jumping into the deep water.
EMDR
EMDR is a trauma processing therapy based on identifying past traumas and intentionally focusing on them and letting our brains process them better in order to help release the hold they have over us.
Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)
This treatment is focused on identifying what situations we are avoiding and setting up experiments to face them and help our brain learn that they aren't necessary to avoid.
