As a therapist specializing in helping individuals and families through life transitions and racial identity conflicts, I offer expertise honed over three years in therapy and a dozen years in social work. My approach is liberation-focused, empowering clients to embrace their authentic selves and navigate the complexities of our world, including familial and systemic pressures. In our sessions, I provide a supportive environment for clients to explore their identities, understand their unique experiences, and develop strategies to manage stress and anxiety. My goal is to foster understanding, resilience, and empowerment, guiding clients towards a more fulfilling and authentic life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will focus on getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy. We'll explore your goals, any concerns you have, and I'll answer any questions to help you feel comfortable and informed about the process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, my greatest strengths lie in my deep compassion, honesty, and directness, coupled with my commitment to helping you uncover and address the root causes of your challenges. I strive to create a safe and supportive space where you can explore your experiences openly and authentically. Together, we will work on transforming obstacles into opportunities for profound healing and self-discovery, empowering you towards personal liberation and growth.

My treatment methods

Somatic

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the mind and body, helping individuals process and release physical tension related to emotional stress and trauma. In my practice, I integrate techniques such as body awareness, breathing exercises, and movement to help clients become more attuned to their bodily sensations. This approach facilitates the release of stored trauma and promotes healing by allowing clients to reconnect with their bodies in a safe and supportive environment. Through somatic therapy, many of my clients have experienced significant improvements in their emotional and physical well-being.

Compassion Focused

Compassion-focused therapy is designed to help individuals develop self-compassion and reduce self-criticism, which can be particularly beneficial for those with high levels of shame and self-blame. In practice I employ techniques such as mindfulness, compassionate imagery, and cognitive-behavioral strategies to help clients cultivate a more compassionate mindset towards themselves and others. This approach can help improve emotional regulation and promote mental well-being.

Trauma Informed Care

In my experience with trauma-informed care, I prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment for clients by recognizing the pervasive impact of trauma and integrating this understanding into all aspects of treatment. I ensure that my approach is client-centered, emphasizing empowerment and collaboration. This involves actively listening to clients' needs, being mindful of potential triggers, and fostering a sense of control and autonomy in their therapeutic journey. By maintaining an empathetic and non-judgmental stance, I aim to build trust and resilience, facilitating healing and recovery.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

In my practice, I incorporate culturally sensitive therapy by actively seeking to understand and respect my clients' cultural backgrounds, values, and beliefs. I use this approach by creating a safe space for clients to express themselves, and by tailoring my therapeutic techniques to align with their cultural context. This involves ongoing education on diverse cultural practices and being mindful of cultural nuances that influence a client's experience and worldview. Through open dialogue and culturally adapted interventions, I aim to foster trust and effective communication, ensuring that therapy is both relevant and respectful.

Psychoeducation

However, psychoeducation is a crucial component in many therapeutic approaches. It involves educating clients about their mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies. I use psychoeducation to help clients understand their symptoms, reduce anxiety about their conditions, and empower them with knowledge to manage their mental health effectively. This approach is tailored to the client's specific needs and comprehension levels.
