New to Grow
Hi, I’m Shannon—a Licensed Professional Counselor, therapist, educator, and wellness advocate who believes therapy should feel like a safe space where you can be honest, understood, and empowered to grow. I bring warmth, authenticity, humor, and real-life perspective into the work I do. I am married and have four children. I currently reside in Middle GA but originally from Mississippi. I have been in practice for over 16 years and what can I say I love my job. So much so I have extended my expertise to becoming a Certified Holistic Therapist (will be done in two months!). I know many clients don't know exactly what they want when they come to therapy but I feel like that is ok as long as you come with an open mind and willing to learn but most importantly be an active participant in your treatment! Glad to have you here!
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, talk about what brought you to therapy, and begin identifying the things you would like to change or better understand. We’ll discuss your goals, your experiences, and what you need to feel supported throughout the process. Most importantly, there is no pressure to have everything figured out. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, respected, and hopeful—with a clearer sense of where we can begin and confidence that you don’t have to navigate everything alone.
I’m compassionate, approachable, honest, creative, and solution-focused. One of my greatest strengths is making complex mental-health concepts feel simple, practical, and relatable. I’m not afraid to bring humor into the room when appropriate, while still creating space for the hard conversations. At the heart of my work is a genuine desire to help people recognize their worth, find their voice, heal what has hurt them, and become the healthiest version of themselves. I will share my personal experiences especially when appropriate. I am human and I feel like if my clients can see me they will allow me to see them and counseling becomes more comfortable and beneficial for them.
Individuals My ideal client is a woman who is tired of always being “the strong one” and is ready to prioritize herself without feeling guilty. She may be navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, family dynamics, unhealthy patterns, low self-worth, difficulty setting boundaries, or the emotional weight of constantly caring for everyone else. From the outside, she may appear to have it all together, but internally she feels overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of who she is beyond the roles she carries. She isn't simply looking for someone to tell her what's wrong—she wants to understand herself, heal from past experiences, build healthier relationships, communicate her needs, establish boundaries, and regain confidence. She wants practical tools she can use in everyday life and a therapist who is compassionate, relatable, honest, and willing to have the real conversations. Most importantly, she is ready to stop losing herself while showing up for everyone else and begin creating a life and relationships that feel healthier, more authentic, and fulfilling. Teenagers My ideal teen client is a young person navigating anxiety, emotions, friendships, family expectations, identity, self-esteem, or life’s everyday challenges. They may struggle to express what they feel but are ready to build confidence, coping skills, healthy boundaries, and a better understanding of themselves. Couples My ideal couples client is a couple who wants more than simply “stopping the arguing.” They are ready to understand each other, improve communication, rebuild trust, establish healthy boundaries, and address the patterns creating distance in their relationship. Whether navigating conflict, disconnection, parenting differences, intimacy, or past hurts, they are willing to have honest conversations, take accountability, and work together toward a healthier, more connected relationship.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is my choice of treatment method because it focuses on where you want to go rather than staying stuck in where you’ve been. It helps clients identify their strengths, recognize what is already working, set realistic goals, and develop practical steps toward meaningful change. This approach can feel empowering because clients are encouraged to see themselves as capable of creating change rather than defined by their problems. Most clients are looking for an easy fix and while I clarify that is not what counseling is for, if they are able to focus on solutions especially within 6-12 months progress will definitely be made.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy is beneficial because it helps clients develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors without immediately reacting to them. It can reduce stress and emotional overwhelm, improve emotional regulation, and help clients become more present in their daily lives. By learning to slow down and respond intentionally rather than react automatically, clients can build greater self-awareness, calm, and control. I use mindfulness practices in my everyday life and I understand the benefits. Becoming a holistic therapist has been a game-changer for me from the sound baths to the breathwork exercises. It is more than just being able to create calm but it is healing.
