New to Grow
Hi, I’m Mary! I have over 10 years of experience as a social worker, with a background that spans working with elementary-aged children in school-based settings to supporting older adults in community mental health. That range has shaped how I understand people across different life stages and experiences, and I bring that perspective into the work I do now. I especially enjoy working with individuals navigating depression, panic/anxiety, self-esteem/image, young adult life transitions, and relationship conflicts. In my personal time, I enjoy reading books with my book club, thrift shopping, and belly laughing with my son. I am looking forward to meeting and supporting you on your journey.
During the first session, my goal is to better understand your experiences. You can expect our first session to be a warm welcoming into a space where we will spend weeks getting to know each other and collaborating on your goals for treatment. You will be encouraged to openly share your current concerns and what brings you to therapy. I will also share my approach to therapy and answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process.
As a therapist, my approach is both thoughtful and collaborative. My preferred therapy modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing techniques. I tailor these approaches to fit each person, focusing on both practical tools and deeper self-understanding. I believe that meaningful change comes from not just understanding what you are going through, but why.
My ideal clients are young adults navigating life transitions (education/career changes), as well as adults experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts or challenges with self-esteem or social life. I am also skilled in supporting medical behavioral health and foster care/adoption process. I would pair best with individuals who are ready to gain insight, build coping skills, and create meaningful change in their lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I would describe CBT as the main treatment modality used in my practice. I teach positive CBT coping skills to my clients who are experiencing unhealthy thought patterns (especially those associated with anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues).
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
In my practice, I have utilized ACT and mindfulness interventions to help clients stay grounded in their bodies and the present moment. I also incorporate ACT in the goal setting process to assist clients in identifying meaningful actions that are aligned with their personal values.
Motivational Interviewing
I utilize motivational interviewing all throughout the therapeutic process to ensure collaborative exploration and client-directed goals and values are being identified.
Strength-Based
For the past 10 years, I have always used a strengths-based approach to help identify and build on a client's skills, resilience, and resources. My goal in utilizing this method is to empower clients to navigate clients and create meaningful life changes.
