James Reed
At Pursuit of I Am (POIAM), we provide compassionate, individualized behavioral health services to adolescents and adults navigating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, relationship challenges, substance use concerns, life transitions, and other behavioral health needs. Our goal is to create a supportive and empowering space where clients can heal, grow, develop healthier coping strategies, and confidently pursue the life they envision for themselves.
First session
Your first session is about creating a comfortable space for us to get to know one another. There is no pressure to have everything figured out or to know exactly what to say. We'll complete an initial assessment, talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been happening in your life, and what you hope will be different as a result of our work together.
Strengths
I meet you where you are without expecting you to stay there. I combine evidence-based clinical practices with real conversation, humor when appropriate, and genuine human connection. My goal is not to tell you how to live your life, but to help you better understand yourself, strengthen your confidence, develop practical tools, and become more intentional about who you are becoming.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who knows that something in their life needs to change, even if they are not completely sure where to begin. You may be navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, stress, or simply feeling stuck and disconnected from the person you want to be. You do not have to come to therapy with everything figured out—you just need a willingness to show up, be honest with yourself, and explore what is possible.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify thought patterns or beliefs that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, or feeling stuck. Rather than simply telling you to “think positively,” we explore whether your thoughts are helpful, accurate, and aligned with the life you want to build. I incorporate practical strategies such as reframing unhelpful thoughts, developing coping skills, problem-solving, and practicing new behaviors between sessions. My goal is to help you gain tools you can use beyond therapy to respond to challenges with greater confidence, awareness, and intention.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients focus on where they want to go rather than becoming overwhelmed by where they have been. Together, we identify your goals, existing strengths, past successes, and the resources you already have that can support meaningful change. I use goal-oriented questions to help you recognize what is working, identify exceptions to current challenges, and develop small, realistic steps toward the life you want. SFBT fits my approach because I believe you are more than the problems that brought you to therapy. My role is to help you recognize your capabilities, build on what is already working, and turn insight into intentional action.
