I am a passionate, person-centered therapist with more than 30 years helping people recover from a variety of issues. My approach is both compassionate and directive. Clients working with me will find a safe, judgement-free environment. Therapy cannot happen in any other environment. You will find my approach to be realistic, warm and engaging. Drawing from a variety of approaches, matching my approach to your unique personality type and goals. I have extensively worked with trauma survivors, first responders, and the LGBTQIA communities. My work with the trans community started more than 20 years ago when this issue was extremely taboo. I have worked with people from adolescents to older adults. Age and gender-specific approaches are crucial in helping people heal. I am passionate about my work and will provide you with tools and resources to empower you in the healing process. I specialize in addictions, depression, anxiety, trauma, gender and sexual orientation issues.
The vast majority of my clients report feeling relief at the conclusion of each session. As I often provide homework assignments, specific tasks, and exercises, there is an element of coaching included in our sessions. I am an EMDR practitioner, which is extremely helpful in resolving trauma, attachment and substance abuse issues.
I am a psycho-dynamic practitioner who draws from an eccliteic collection of clinical approaches. I incorporate CBT, Reality Therapy, EMDR, Psycho-dynamic, and other modalities dependent upon your specific circumstances. This is not a "one size fits all" type of therapy. You determine the course of treatment. You will be asked what is helpful, what is not helpful, and your input becomes the guide for the treatment process.
My strenghts are my excellent diagnostic and assessment skills. I can quickly determine the nature of the issues a person is facing, and develop a treatment plan that will effectively address those issues. Healing need not take years and years of therapy. People I have worked with find that they begin to feel better within weeks of starting therapy. Though most clients work with me for a period of about 6 months on average, many people ask to continue working with me longer-term for wellness and support. Having someone in your corner is a wonderful support as we constantly face new challenges in our rapidly chaning world.
