My name is Lisa Livingston I've been a dedicated therapist for over 12 years supporting individuals on their mental health journeys. I've worked across a range of clinical settings, including residential treatment, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and traditional outpatient therapy. Lisa has extensive experience working with individuals facing severe and persistent mental health challenges, as well as those seeking to make meaningful and positive changes in their lives. Her approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and rooted in a deep commitment to helping clients navigate their unique paths toward healing and growth.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In the first session with me, clients can expect a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where we begin to build a foundation of trust and collaboration. I take time to learn about what brings them to therapy, their current challenges, and any goals or hopes they have for the therapeutic process. We'll review important background information, discuss confidentiality and what to expect from therapy, and start identifying areas they’d like to focus on. Most importantly, the first session is about creating a safe environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported as we begin their journey toward meaningful change.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
One of my greatest strengths as a provider is my ability to build strong, genuine connections with clients, creating a safe and supportive space where they feel truly heard and understood. I bring a calm, compassionate presence to sessions, along with a nonjudgmental attitude that helps clients feel comfortable exploring even the most difficult aspects of their lives. My clinical experience across diverse treatment settings has equipped me with a flexible, evidence-based approach, allowing me to tailor interventions to each person’s unique needs. I’m deeply committed to helping clients uncover their strengths, overcome obstacles, and make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
My dream client is someone who is ready to take an active role in their personal growth and is open to exploring the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be holding them back. They may not have all the answers, but they have a willingness to reflect, to be honest with themselves, and to try new approaches. Whether they're navigating life transitions, working through past experiences, or seeking greater balance and fulfillment, I value clients who are motivated to make positive changes and are committed to doing the inner work. Together, we can build a collaborative, supportive relationship that empowers them to create the life they envision.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my therapy sessions, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their emotional distress. By working collaboratively, we explore how these thoughts influence feelings and actions, and I guide clients in developing more balanced and constructive ways of thinking. I also incorporate practical strategies such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and mindfulness techniques to support lasting change. CBT provides a structured and evidence-based approach that empowers clients to take an active role in their own healing and build resilience over time.
Humanistic
In our work together, I use a humanistic approach, which means I focus on creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can be fully yourself. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you with empathy, honesty, and respect. I’ll listen closely to your experiences and feelings, help you explore what matters most to you, and support you in understanding yourself more deeply. Together, we’ll work toward growth and change at a pace that feels right for you, with the goal of helping you feel more connected to yourself and empowered in your choices.
EMDR
In EMDR therapy, we’ll work together to help your brain process distressing or overwhelming experiences that may still be affecting you today. Sometimes difficult memories get “stuck,” and EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements or tapping—while you briefly focus on those memories in a safe, controlled way. You won’t need to go into every detail of what happened. My role is to guide and support you through the process, making sure you feel grounded and in control at all times. The goal is to reduce the emotional intensity of past experiences so they feel more distant and less disruptive, allowing you to move forward with greater ease and resilience.
