New to Grow
Hi! I’m Karem, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 11 years of experience working with adults. I earned my Master’s in Counseling Psychology, specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy, graduating with distinction. I specialize in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help individuals process stuck memories, reduce anxiety and depression, and shift unhelpful relationship patterns. I have experience assisting adults navigating a variety of challenges, including reproductive and post-partum struggles, traumatic events and abuse, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. My goal is to support you in creating meaningful, lasting change. You don’t have to do this alone. I’m here to walk alongside you.
In your first session, we will focus on getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. You can expect a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where you feel heard and supported. I also provide psycho-education about trauma, the sympathetic nervous system, and how past experiences can shape your responses, so you gain insight into what’s happening in your mind and body. Together, we’ll identify your goals, explore what’s keeping you stuck, and begin taking steps toward relief, growth, and healthier patterns. My aim is to help you leave the session feeling understood, empowered, and hopeful about the path forward.
What stands out about my approach is the integration of evidence-based modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) within a trauma-informed, strengths-based framework. With over 11 years of experience, I bring a depth of clinical expertise and have supported hundreds of clients in moving through trauma, anxiety, and relational challenges toward meaningful change. I prioritize creating a safe, attuned environment where clients feel empowered to move at their own pace while building insight and emotional regulation. Clients often experience not only symptom relief, but also increased confidence, self-understanding, and lasting shifts in how they relate to themselves and others. Clients often report that they feel very safe and comfortable with me and bring a light of positive energy to their world.
EMDR
I am a certified practitioner of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and use this evidence-based approach to help clients process trauma, reduce anxiety, and shift negative core beliefs. In my practice, I begin with stabilization and resourcing to ensure clients feel grounded and prepared before moving into reprocessing. I incorporate psycho-education about trauma and the nervous system to support insight and empowerment throughout the process. EMDR is integrated within a broader, client-centered framework to promote lasting emotional and relational change as well as increased confidence.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS) into my practice by helping clients understand and connect with the different “parts” of themselves that hold emotions, beliefs, and past experiences. Through this approach, I support clients in developing a more compassionate and curious relationship with these parts, rather than judgment or avoidance. This process fosters greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and internal balance, allowing clients to heal underlying wounds and respond to life with more clarity and confidence.
Trauma Informed Care
I practice from a trauma-informed care lens, prioritizing safety, trust, and collaboration in every aspect of the therapeutic process. I am mindful of how past traumatic experiences can impact the nervous system, relationships, and sense of self, and I tailor interventions to avoid re-traumatization. This approach emphasizes client empowerment, choice, and pacing, helping individuals feel more in control of their healing. Through this framework, I support clients in building resilience, emotional regulation, and a stronger sense of stability.
Strength-Based
I utilize a strengths-based approach, focusing on each client’s existing resilience, resources, and capacities for growth. Rather than centering solely on symptoms or deficits, I help clients identify and build upon their strengths to support healing and change. This approach fosters empowerment, self-efficacy, and a more balanced self-concept. By highlighting what is already working, clients are better able to navigate challenges with confidence and clarity.
