Sean O'Hara

LCSW (he/him)5 years of experience

Hi, My name is Sean O'Hara. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York with over 7 years of experience working in the Mental Health field. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, grief and loss, life transitions, and family/relationship issues. I graduated from Fordham University in 2017 with an MSW, and have worked in a variety of clinical settings including inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities.

First session

My purpose for you is to create a therapeutic atmosphere that will meet you where you are at while exploring where you want to be. Taking that first step to seek therapy can certainly be a challenge in and of itself, but if you are willing to take that step then I am committed to supporting and empowering you toward the life you are meant to lead. I look forward to working together!

Strengths

I am a solution-focused therapist with a person-centered approach. I strongly believe in the resiliency of the human spirit and identifying those things which motivate you as an individual in a judgement-free space. While I have specialty training in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), CT-R (Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing, my approach is always tailored to your needs in a way we both see fit to meet your goals.

Ideal clients

Clients who are goal-driven and motivated to engage in the therapeutic process. I enjoy working with client's who are interested in exploring their perspectives and are willing to engage in a process where flexibility to stressors and obstacles in life can be a rewarding experience. I am also happy to work with client's who may feel stuck, but want to explore potential growth within themselves.

Treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

With ACT, I guide clients in cultivating psychological flexibility by increasing awareness, acceptance, and alignment with their personal values. I tailor this approach to each individual to meet specific needs. The intention is to not only support symptom relief, but also foster a deeper engagement in a purposeful and values-driven life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Through CBT, I help individuals identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns while building practical coping strategies to manage symptoms. The intention is to re-evaluate what central self-beliefs drive our thinking, our emotional patterns, and our behaviors, and to identify new strategies and approaches for fostering a healthier sense of self.
