New to Grow
I am an LPCC from Kentucky, I graduated with my Masters degree from WKU. I have been practicing therapy early on from internship to my LPCA, my LPCC, and soon I will be able to gain my supervisor credential and become an LPCC-S. I attempt to balance an empathetic approach with a scientific approach to therapy as I think it is important to view situations and client cases from both perspectives rather than only one. I like to remove rigid stereotypes of therapy and approach it with a more holistic and casual approach, again, with that added scientific foundation.
The first session is where I layout: 1. Introduction of myself and you 2. Introduction on therapy and my style/approach for sessions. 3. Build a good background on your current situation and past history. 4. Explore your desire and expectations from this process. 5. Set up a direction to move forward in.
I believe that everyone already has the answers to their own problems and that the therapy process is a way to bring those out and then set a direction on how to achieve and implement them. My goal as a therapist is for the client to fire me one day because that means that the client got what they needed and can now implement those things independently as I don't think anyone wants or needs therapy for their whole life, but rather needs it in moments to be able to handle the rest on their own or with more natural support systems. I balance validation, exploration, processing, and challenging the client throughout the process as each one is needed. I am very person centered and I believe our brains let us know when we are ready to process something through our discussions with people and I use that foundation during sessions by allowing client's to be the one leading the session. This allows for client's to take accountability and ownership of their own progress, which can be overwhelming at first, but with support it can be a long-term strength.
I appreciate the diversity of clients and populations as I strive to meet every client where they are at and implement an individualized approach that meets the uniqueness of everyone's situation and lifestyle. I believe the two things that are most important for treatment to be successful are the therapist/client relationship and the client's desire and willingness to improve their functioning. As long as those two factors are healthy and in tact then treatment can be successful no matter the concerns or other factors.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify patterns of thinking, emotions, and behaviors that may be keeping them stuck. Together, we examine unhelpful beliefs, challenge distorted thinking, and develop practical strategies that promote healthier emotional responses and lasting behavioral change. My goal is not simply to replace negative thoughts with positive ones, but to help clients build a more balanced, realistic perspective that supports their long-term goals
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build practical skills for managing intense emotions, navigating stress, and improving relationships. DBT emphasizes balancing acceptance of the present moment with making meaningful changes that align with a client's goals and values. In therapy, I help clients strengthen skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness so they can respond to life's challenges with greater confidence, resilience, and intention rather than reacting impulsively or becoming overwhelmed.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful growth, and I work collaboratively with clients to help them explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences at their own pace. By fostering empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, I empower clients to build greater self-awareness, confidence, and the ability to make choices that align with their values and goals.
Narrative
I use Narrative Therapy to help clients examine the stories they tell themselves about who they are and the challenges they face. Together, we explore how past experiences, relationships, and societal influences may have shaped these narratives while identifying strengths, values, and moments of resilience that may have been overlooked. By separating the person from the problem and developing more empowering perspectives, clients can gain greater clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of direction in their lives.
Eclectic
I take an eclectic approach to therapy, recognizing that no single treatment method is the right fit for every client. Rather than relying on one therapeutic model, I thoughtfully integrate techniques from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Narrative Therapy based on each client's unique needs, goals, and circumstances. This flexible approach allows therapy to remain individualized, collaborative, and responsive as clients grow and their needs evolve.
