Richard Satriano
I am a doctorally prepared, board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience caring for adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I provide compassionate, individualized care for adults experiencing anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, depression, and mood-related concerns. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and nonjudgmental. I believe effective mental health care begins with feeling genuinely heard, understood, and supported. I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment where you can feel free to be yourself, express your concerns openly, and explore your experiences without judgment. I take the time to understand you as a whole person—not simply your symptoms—and to recognize the strengths, experiences, and unique qualities that shape who you are. Together, we’ll identify your goals and develop an individualized approach that feels realistic, meaningful, and aligned with what matters most to you. I provide clear guidance, education, and support while encouraging you to be an active participant in your care. My goal is not only to help you manage your symptoms, but also to help you better understand yourself, recognize your potential, and feel more empowered and confident in moving forward. Whether you are seeking help for the first time, looking to better understand yourself, or hoping to find a different approach to your mental health, I’m here to meet you where you are and support you along the way.
First session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brings you to care. If this is your first experience with mental health treatment, you may feel uncertain about what to expect, and that’s completely understandable. You do not need to have the right words or have everything figured out before we meet. During our initial session, we’ll talk about your current concerns, what you have been experiencing, and how these challenges may be affecting different areas of your life, including your relationships, work, family, and overall well-being. We’ll also explore your mental health history, strengths, goals, and any previous treatment that may be relevant. I’ll take the time to answer your questions, provide education, and help you better understand what may be contributing to what you’re experiencing. Most importantly, your first session is the beginning of a collaborative relationship. I want you to feel comfortable, heard, and respected, and I welcome your questions and perspective throughout the process. Together, we’ll begin identifying your goals and discussing treatment options that are appropriate for your individual needs and preferences. You can expect to leave your first session with a better understanding of what may be contributing to your concerns, a clearer sense of the next steps, and a treatment plan that we can develop together. My goal is for you to feel supported and hopeful, knowing that you don’t have to navigate the process alone.
Strengths
I bring more than a decade of clinical experience, along with a compassionate, thoughtful, and individualized approach to each session. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to listen deeply and understand the person behind the symptoms. I strive to create a safe, comfortable, and nonjudgmental environment where you can be open and honest about your experiences and feel genuinely heard and understood. My approach stands out because I view mental health care as a collaborative process. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I take the time to understand your unique experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals. I provide clear education and guidance while encouraging you to be an active participant in your care. I believe that feeling informed, supported, and empowered can help you make meaningful changes and move toward the life you want to live. I also recognize that when you’re struggling with your mental health, the impact can extend well beyond how you feel emotionally. Anxiety, ADHD, trauma, OCD, depression, and other mental health concerns can affect relationships, work, caregiving responsibilities, and your ability to fully engage in the things that matter most to you. With this in mind, our time together will focus not only on managing symptoms, but on helping you function and feel your best across the different areas of your life. I bring a balance of clinical expertise and genuine human connection to my work. I look beyond a diagnosis or a list of symptoms to understand you as a whole person. Together, we’ll identify what matters most to you and develop an approach that is evidence-based, realistic, and personally meaningful. My goal is for you to feel heard, supported, and empowered as you work toward greater well-being and a life that feels more fulfilling and aligned with your goals.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is an adult who is ready to better understand themselves, improve their mental well-being, and make meaningful changes in their life. You may be struggling with anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, depression, or mood-related concerns, or simply feel that something is getting in the way of functioning, connecting with others, or living the life you want. You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or frustrated that the strategies you have tried on your own are no longer enough. You may also be someone who appears to be doing well on the outside while privately struggling to keep up with the demands of work, relationships, family, or caregiving. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. What matters most is a willingness to be open, explore your experiences, and work collaboratively toward your goals. Whether you are seeking relief from distressing symptoms, hoping to understand yourself more deeply, or looking for greater balance and fulfillment, I welcome the opportunity to meet you where you are. Together, we can identify what is most important to you and develop an individualized approach to help you feel better, function more fully, and move toward the life you want to live.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies and medication management to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and make meaningful changes in their lives. CBT provides practical tools for recognizing patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, low mood, difficulty managing emotions, or other challenges. Together, we can explore how your thoughts and behaviors may influence how you feel and identify healthier, more effective ways of responding to difficult situations. I encourage you to practice these skills between sessions so that the work we do together can become part of your everyday life. When medication may be helpful, I use it thoughtfully and as one part of your overall treatment plan. Medication can reduce symptoms and provide a foundation that makes it easier to engage in other aspects of treatment, but I do not view it as a quick fix or a solution on its own. I believe lasting improvement also involves your willingness to develop coping skills, build self-awareness, and take steps toward changes that support your mental health and well-being. I tailor treatment to each individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Some clients may benefit more from CBT-based strategies, while others may benefit from medication, or from a combination of both. We will regularly assess how you are doing, discuss what is and isn’t working, and adjust our approach as needed. My goal is to help you not only feel better, but also develop the understanding, skills, and confidence to manage life's challenges more effectively and live more fully in the areas that matter most to you.
